I think I may have made a mistake...

As a beginner looking over the different heavies and the different weapon combinations. I liked to give a Ballistic weapons a crack. My first Mech is the Griffin with Missiles/Lasers and I am happy to say the balance of speed and fire power works.

I thought at first the Roughneck was an ideal Heavy with Ballistic/Lasers only I'm finding it really hard to first find a good build, have fire power worthy of a Heavy and still move well enough.

Perhaps the Roughneck is'nt for me? I am open to suggestions to make it work because it seems possible to make a great mech but I just cant find it and prehaps choose the wrong mech.

Thanks

It generally does best with 2 UAC10s then you have a few ER medium lasers to back it up.

Just double tap the UAC10s when shooting your enemy during the burn duration of your laser and get back to cover, when needed you have the DPS of the UACs to fall back on if you are pushed.

You say your a New Player, so try something like this,

Its not 'meta' or anything, but it play's nice and if you have heat issues then try,

Unfortunately, if you want a great Ballistic / Laser machine your probably better off going to Warhammer's.

So, this RGH-2A is a quick swap from standard, to see if you like the load out. Dirt cheap since it doesn't touch double heat sinks yet, but if you like it then of course, toss 'em in. You could also swap two heatsinks to go RAC 5 from uac 5, but I'd only try that after double heatsinking it.

I'd really recommend sticking with the trial mechs if you don't have the money to buy a good loadout for a mech. Trying to use the stock stuff like that leaves you running twice as hot as everyone else, dying if you lose a single side torso, and putting out about half the damage of others. You get what you pay for.

Or you could pull off the lasers and go with UAC20+MRM30 / UAC10+MRM40. Your choice.

If you stick with a standard engine you can use a Heavy Gauss and have some backup medium or ER medium lasers.

This is a Fine build, But not Ballistic/laser. But still a damn fine build.

Roughnecks aren't really suited for laser+ballistic builds. 2A can only mount 3x medium lasers (whether ML, ERML or MPL), 3A is a pure laser boat, Reaver's ballistic hardpoints are low-mounted and the remaining variants have no more than 1 energy hardpoint - and that in the head. For anyone planning to build around the high shoulder mounts, it's ACs and MRMs.

Probably the most meta RGH-2A build is HGR + 3 MPL, like this: https://mwo.smurfy-n...17fed7112661840

Decent speed, hits hard, and if you loose the Gauss you have 3 MPL's to zombie with. Not bad.

Jack of all trades, but then again, if you have trouble with more than 2 weapon groups, maybe not a good build. Good zombie potential.

Roughnecks, my favorite :) Never had much luck with laser vomit on one, however as mentioned above MRMs work well with it, I personally run some 1C's with MRM 40/ LBX10/ 3 Rockets/ 2 Mgs and it works well for me personally. A fun pop tart is the 2A with 2 x MRM 40s and 3 LMGs. It is a pop tart though so be weary. As always, anything not a pop tart stick to a LTE and you should have a good time.
