So can we not use mechs we already own in Solaris? All I'm seeing is the option of using trail mechs? I want to use my YLW.

I clicked around on the buttons (expand all, etc.) and eventually got my owned mechs to show up. It's absolutely unintuitive though and I'm not sure how it scores each mech to decide which of the 7 slots you can pick it for.

Thanks. I started clicking around as well finally figured it out.

Leave it to PGI to design the most absurd UI on the planet.

It's based on the chassis and variant you're using: https://mwomercs.com/s7-mech-divisions

Easy way to do it?

Pick the division you want at the bottom with "Select Mech"

Pick the same division in the top right corner of the mech selection screen.

Click Expand all, owned and both.

TBH, it's not that bad.

If you can spend less than 5 minutes and figure it out without outside help, it's not unintuitive. If you can't figure it out at all, or takes longer than 10 minutes, then it's unintuitive.

5-9 minutes for basic UI function acquisition would definitely fall in the "bad/unintuitive design" range - especially for a UI function being used by someone familiar with the base platform.

That said, it's no worse design than most the rest of the out-of-match UI.

yeah, not like they've been running live streams all week on the topic.

Oh, can't/don't watch streams? they put them up on youtube afterwords.

Oh, don't watch youtube videos about MWO? Well, there's these things they put out before patches called patch notes.

Oh, don't read patch notes? Can't help you.

The UI ain't bad or unintuitive. FFS, do people need a hand holding "click here next, timmy, to go to the next part." tutorial for everything now?

There's no select mech button initially so how exactly do you press it??

The UI is obcure and goes againts the normal logic of first selecting an owned mech, then doing rest. Selecting own mech instead of trials is a basic thing to do that shouldn't take more than 5 seconds to figure out how. And I hightly agree this is perfectly in line with how PGI does UI.

You're very confused on the definition of "intuitive" as it applies to UI design. If you have to watch videos and read patch notes for a very basic function, that's the opposite of intuitive.

Again, not actually harping on the problem - it's no worse than the entire rest of the non-fight UI - but words actually mean things.

It was intuitive enough within the context of playing MWO. I know how to use their basic UI, I was able to figure this one out (without watching videos or reading ****) within a few minutes.

Your right, I probably shouldn't have used that argument when discussing the videos and everything else.

How about this?

My 14 year old went in blind, and figured everything out without hand holding or guidance, just with basic knowledge of the pre-existing UI. Map selection in S7, which i've seen people complain it took them time to figure out, was sussed out before he even finished saying "It says map banning, does that mean I pick maps I don't wan't" because the red player banned one halfway through the sentence.

Is it a *Great* UI? Nah. It's also not horrible. There's plenty of stupid in the world though, so people expect to be hand fed a experience completely through now.

That definition is exceedingly generous. If the average person can't look at it and tell how to do what they need to do in less than a minute without referring to guides, it's not intuitive. And I say that knowing full well that the average person can look at a screen where the only interactive element is a large, labelled button for the function they need and still take multiple minutes to find and press that button.

Not to mention that there's no goddamn reason for all of the weight class tabs to not be open by default.

As a player who hasnt played in a good long while, came back to give it a swirl, the UI is still complete ****. Far from intuitive. The fact that I had to jump on the forums for some guidance is a complete joke. Granted, even back in the beta stages, the UI was complete ****, so not much improvement there in the first place.
