Okay, so we've all seen the hundreds of posts already made whining about all kinds of things from "OP LIGHTS," "OP ASSAULTS," and the silliest "SOLARIS DOA" and everyone seems so down. Let's talk about what we like so far!

While not perfect, Solaris is a ton of fun with a bro. Solo it can become tedious, but I almost always roll as a two man team, so this works great and it's a blast.

I really love the Duncan announcer. I wish they had like 200+ more context dependent lines, but really I dig it.

The new mechbay is awesome. I totally enjoy it. If they added little work crews welding and reloading between fights, it would be perfect.

Speaking of the hanger.... the best feature is the new camera. Not only is it a great little add-on, if i swing it right I can make my KGC shadow box and it's totally awesome.
What do you guys think??

I'll admit: I'm actually not a very big PvP person. My jam is singleplayer and co-op titles. So most of my enjoyment from MW:O has been through the sole fact that it's Mechwarrior, and stupid RP stuff with Clan Diamond Shark. But 1 vs 1 PvP? THAT I can get into heartily! I don't have the stress of screwing up and making my team lose, or the hair-pulling frustration of watching our Dire Wolf walk out of bounds at the start of the match. I can focus entirely on making 1 person very, very dead, and as a Dark Souls player, that's MY niche.

As you said, the mechlab changes are greatly appreciated, and being able to go into first person in the mechlab, while admittedly a gimmick, DOES allow me to get a greater realization of how massive our mechs are. Helps me respect them a little bit more, y'know?

Plus Duncan Fisher is the best husbando

As expected there are some cookie cutter builds, however I appreciate the number of players that try something else and I have fun trying other stuff.

The Mechbay is great, just love it.

The Division System is good (yes it needs some tweaking, wink Cataphract...) but overall it is excellent and good that they made 7 and not less. This allows for more differentiated tweaking.

Overall sportsmanship is good, yes there are some egos who cannot get over it being beaten, but overall it is a lot of GFs and stuff. I hope it stays this civilized.

Love Duncan Fisher :)

The Arenas overall are great. I wish they would make oversized versions of those for quickplay. There has been thought put into the arenas and they each have challenges without being too onesided. Also I love the look of the caves and the jungle a lot.

I prolly will never be a top level PvP guy, but the overall experience is fun to play.

Oh right, you just reminded me of one of my favorite things about Solaris. I can finally run weird builds with 1-2 tons of ammo for a main weapon, and still be viable! I can't really run lore builds without dying instantly, but still, I can run stupid stuff like a triple RAC/2 Rifleman, which would be a death trap in QP. It makes me giddy just thinking about the builds I can make now.

The MWO climate (hot and salty) can be measured from the small number of posts on this topic and the many more on the multiple negative threads.

Oh well, I have enjoyed Solaris 7. It offers something new and different. Mechs that would be awful in QP or FW can be effective 1v1. And the action is fast and mostly exciting. The divisions will be tweaked as time goes on, but they aren't bad. I have beaten almost all the OP mechs at least once or twice so they may be "better" but not op. Better builds have and always will be part of the game. If you bring a Catapult with 4 LRM 10's to the factory you can expect to lose badly (I think my competitor accidently selected the wrong mech, lol).

I have also tried some of the op mechs (Vindicator, Cataphracts) and they are good, but not op. I lose games with these less often, but still lose to better players in other but different good builds. Solaris 7 comes down to building a good mech for the arena and 1v1 fighting skill. Skilled players with good builds win more often. That is how it should be. But the ELO system keeps players matched up pretty fairly.

PGI has invested an incredible amount of work to produce this game mode. It is fun, and will still be fun for a long time. It offers another option to QP and FW, but these modes are still around as well. It won't replace them. Overall, Solaris is a plus for the game.

I listened in on TS last night as four of our team dropped in S7 for the first time... Solaris will work for a while because, it can be fun....but, up to a certain point, where the reality of the game play algorithm kicks in.....ELO or whatever the new MM will do...will be the choke point where decisions to play or not to play will start to be felt.

As a below avg pilot, most of my mechs aren't on the division drop lists... And, the ones that were weren't going to work... I just couldn't push the launch button because losing 95% of the time isn't fun and that time in game, in say WoW's or pick any other game you enjoy, is much better spent and emotionally productive....

Good luck and good hunting....... Maybe, we'll see you'all in the "events" PGI dreams up to entice us to actually play....

Excuse me, but could you explain this? I mean I am pretty crappy myself, but I have lots of mechs in all of the division lists. In fact all of the mechs in the game are listed in the division drop lists. Do you mean that some of your personally better performing mechs aren’t in a division where you think the competition is fair? But even if that is the case, what does that have to do with your skill? I find this confusing is all.

If you don’t want to play Solaris for whatever reason that is fine (It’s not my cup of tea either, and I think it is absurd where they have my favorite mechs placed divisionally), but I just don’t see what your skill or lack there of has to do with what mechs you have or why you think they are not listed.

If you are bad you will drop in ELO and get matches of your skill and/or mech seriousness, the higher you go the more seriously you have to play and the more you have to adhere to the Solaris meta to stay competitive.

Example, Division 1, the only mech in my collection available to use in Div 1 is the Huntsman prime.... In another, and I don't remember which, only the four Stormcrows I own... Another, only a Nova. It's those 6 mechs or the trial mechs I've never piloted....
My skills are limited because I am playing one handed....literally. I do not brawl because that takes two hands... But, if I were to want to play Solaris, I'd have to use mechs that are "friendly" to playing one handed: i.e. guided weapons (LRMs, Streaks, no ballistics, etc.......) Not an excuse, just a reality.

Last night, listening in on our TS, we had 4 team members playing for the first time and that told the story very well.... They are very experienced pilots and they were getting stomped or experiencing being the one doing the stomping. They are whales so they have hundreds of mechs and could field the latest S7 meta... Play styles make or break Solaris......I'm not a brawler so Solaris would never work for me.... I'd be "fodder" for everybody else. Take that Huntsman, in Division 1: all streaks, AMS and lasers for Scouting... That wouldn't work in Solaris. Even converted to SRM's, it wouldn't work because I will not close to point-blank-range to use them because pin-point aiming one handed is a challenge too great without a programmable flight stick and flight system which PGI and MWO does not support.... Not complaining Crue.... Even if I really wanted to, even with ELO, it would be endless losses and who would do that???

I give Solaris it's due: to those who like this, more power to them...For many, this is a fun mode and may keep a few more in the franchise. But, there are also hundreds of us that will not find a place there; or, in FP as it became; least of all in comp play; and, seldom is it fun enough in QP anymore..... So, we love the MW franchise and play events only.

This is true so long as ELO and population sufficiency can agree...

I listened to 20 matches last night an for me, I can't see any fun in this mode... That doesn't say the S7 is bad or un-fair; it's just not built to support average or below average players.... After all, it's a FPS meritocracy based mode: the good go up and the less than good go down.....and, when there aren't enough "good", the MM/ELO will have to use not so good to operate and that, is where the whole process falls apart.... Last night, actually listening to very experienced players playing was a mix of WTF and that was fun..... But, the writing is on the wall that "fun" is a short term achievement and that the rest resides in WTF....which means for my lower class of player, where we would exist full-time....

So, I'll play events and be happy ! All of the players like me will play QP and be happy because there is no place for them in S7. Meritocracies don't give awards for being average. There is no ROI for being average in S7.... And no reason to allow one self to be fodder.....one must have some pride, yes?!
