It really isn't about how much damage you do, but where the damage is placed. 175 damage to the legs and arms isn't worth much, 175 damage to the CT or side torsos is much more useful.

For all you pilots out there doing 450+ dam per game in non faction matches. Where the hell are your training tips/help. Why is it getting competent, useful and prolonged help for those that need it so hard to find? What is your training method -- follow me and do what I do or more focused on builds and map knowledge?? Do you want a better game/opponent that is challenging or are you happy seal clubbing?

I want to contribute more to the teams I am on. Its no fun being on the side that get stomped 0-12.

Here's some thing to help you.

I'm replying to OP here in context of the above statement:

Please don't bring a NARC scout 'Mech to Faction Play as solo queue. This strategy is only really effective if you're doing it with agreement from your team, and when they plan to bring a full wave of LRM vomit. The likelyhood that you'll be paired up with a full team of folks who brought little to no LRM weaponry is high.

IMO narc has uses beyond lerms, like team wide wall hack aka information warfare.

Edit: If the team can't take advantage of that maybe they were gunna lose anyway

I will admit that I'm not nearly as skilled or experienced as most of the people that have already commented here. But... When I started I was happy to break over 200 damage during my first 100 games or so. If I didn't then it was usually because I didn't think and pay attention to the movements of my teammates. When a push came in I was caught in a bad position because I didn't rotate with the team to avoid the lead enemies and got focused down A.K.A. The infamous "NASCAR". I didn't twist my mech to spread incoming damage. I made bad trades in damage taken vs damage given because I picked a bad spot to fire from or I would often just poke too many times from the same position. (Good way to catch a headshot.)

If you poke then try to have a more threatening teammate around to take the focus off of you. Stay with your team and shoot what they shoot. Learn the keep a third eye on your mini map. See you on the battlefield.

What I consider good damage has shifted over time, depending on the Mechs I play and has shifted since my first post in this thread half a year ago. When I count my own performance, I consider +300 match score a result I am fine with.

Whatever your mechs tonnage times 5.

Atlas (100 tons) should aim for 500 damage
Locust (20 tons) should get at least 100 damage

Piranha (20tons) with Lasers shooting twice is like 100dmg. So this doesn't apply anymore.

I forgot to say that you can also use the PSR change notification at the end of a match as a measurement of how your match went. --*Up to a certain point*-- If your PSR breaks even on a win and you're alive then you might have gotten left behind when your team rolled the enemy team or you didn't fire enough. Then again you may have played the objective in assault or conquest matches and didn't do much fighting. Maybe. Most of the time you will go up with a win.

If you break even or even better go up in PSR on a loss then you prolly had a good game. I would personally be happy with that. But, like I said, that counts up to a certain point.
