I was wondering if anyone had mapped out the new Sunspider CT hitbox because so far I am kind of feeling that over did it. Now it is seeming like I am getting cored out really easily.

I dont' have the editing software to show but the ct is much wider from the front now

Go into the Acadamy with the sunspider, swap it out for the Firestarter.
While in the firestater, step on the little pad thing so that the prompt to switch mechs again shows up...this will cause your sunspider to power up and show up on radar.

Then simply shoot your mgs at where you think the hitboxes are till you find where one stops and the other begins.

Ok I went to the Academy like you suggested and yeah it is pretty huge now. The CT hitbox goes out almost but not quite to where the where the cannons are mounted. I would say it is triple the width now of what it was <sigh>. So now we went from too big of hit boxes on the ST to to big of hit box on the CT. Can't PGI do anything right like I don't know, split the difference? It is almost like PGI went, "Well since you all complained about the ST hitboxes, how about we do this then (MAKES CT HUGE)....HAHA...Complain again plebs and see what THAT gets you."

Also noticed one strange thing, The area right next to the hip joint where it connects to the pelvis of the mech actually counts as a ST hit which seems odd.

There's actually a number of mechs like that. I didn't get to check if it works the same way on the rear torsos, but if it does, it could help spread damage a bit to the STs if you get shot in the back.

I haven't played the SNS since the patch, does its STs still feel like they're made of paper?

Only played a couple matches but so far I am just getting cored. The 2nd match I played I barely lost any ST armor at all which is why I posted about the CT. I felt like they went to far adjusting the CT boxes and so far anyway, it looks like they did. Going to have to play more than a few matches to be sure though but I saw enough to be really worried cause the Sun Spider WAS one of my favorite mechs and was pretty happy with is ability to survive previously as long as I invested in heavily suitability.

I only wanted them to add about 10 armor to the STs as a quirk and I would have felt it was perfect. Now with the bigger CT, I just don't know, especially with the amount of face time you have to spend when using Clan UACs and Lasers. Previously I could just stare at the enemy and do a tiny wiggle to spread damage away from CT to my STs. Now I am thinking maybe not so much.

SNS can torso twist ok though, so after you unload your alpha just twist to one side, and your ST should take care of defense.

I've personally found that the new hitboxes are much better than the old ones. If you torso twist normally, just like in any other mech, damage ends up being spread more or less evenly between the CT and the STs. No complaints from me, Sun Spider now feels like a proper Clan 70-tonner :)

Still a little on the fragile side because you can't use arm armor but much better than before.

I agree with the OP, though. I'd have rather had some ST armor/structure quirks than new hitboxes. That said, I've been getting CT'd more often, but I haven't been killed especially more often than before the change. (shrugs)

Makes sense that you would get cored more easily, everyone shoots at the side torsos of the Sunspider and now a lot of that space is occupied by the center torso.

Good hunting,

Yeah that technique doesn't work well with quad AC2s where you need to keep up the pressure on the enemy mech.

Sunspider is much tankier than it was, if you add to that its outstanding weapon placement it is I think a great fire support mech right now.

Tbh doesn't look much better, but in-game it certainly feels much tankier for some reason... I've even slapped Gauss Rifles back on and somehow it works.

It's not a huge improvement from the side, but it's a pretty big difference from the front. Just eyeballing it, it looks like a 100% increase in CT size, while the STs have lost about 33% of their area (A piece).

Thanks for that Tarogato.

Doesn't look as bad as I was imagining fortunately
