I need some new fast Brawlers in the 70-75 ton range. They must be jump jet capable. I prefer ballistic+energy builds but a mix of both with missles tends to work as well. Of the three options Night Gut,Nova Cat, or Timber Wolf which would you suggest? Why?

Not the Nova Cat because it doesn't have jump jets and probably not the Timber Wolf because the only one that has jump jets has negative quirks for them. If you're not limited to Clan mechs you can possibly consider the IS Marauder - not an ideal brawler due to the long torso shape (though some will argue the opposite since you don't need to twist as far to spread damage) but the -5M and Bounty Hunter II do well with lasers and ballistic mixed builds

Thanks but I must have Clan tech. These Omnimechs will be part of a battle group for Faction Play as well as Quick Play.

Absolutely none.
If you want to brawl use IS Mechs, or Clan mediums like HM, Hunch or Arcwolf.

The NightGyr is simply to stiff and slow in its movements to brawl and its JJs are of little use at point blank (except you want to script bug exploit the hitbox shift problem)
The Nova Cat is even squishier than the Sunspider and the Timberwolf ... well its hard coded internls force you to put lots of ammo in your arms for SRMs causing you to get your weapons shot dry in one or two salvos.
Also the Timby may be able to mount some SRMs but its hitboxes get so bloated by this you have a good chance to get killed or cripled before reaching the enemy.

Clan Omnis are made for big Alphas weapon platforms rather than trading armor so it comes down to play style. The Night Gyr and Nova Cat are slower than other Clan Heavies but can carry allot of firepower, a fair trade if you find a build that works for you but not everyone does. Likewise I like my Timberwolf but everyone know how to take it apart via hit boxes. Because of this, many prefer range builds vs brawler for all three.

Go Nova Cat or Timber Wolf if you like prefer Pules Lasers or Heavy Lasers. The Gyr if you prefer UAC and LBX, it can carry more than the T-wolf though I do have duel UAC 10 on one of my Timbers (never had luck with SRMs on the T-Wolf)

Best overall 75 ton Clan mech for brawling, Orion IIC. It's the Orion IIC's only trick unless you like missiles but it does it well.

Yes I have an Orion IIC Sköl, it is a great brawler. I also have a Huntsman Pakhet and a Linebacker Redline for use in a fast attack Brawler drop deck. Two spots are left with three choices. Some of you have said none of the three. I have much to consider.

Hi Bin,

If you are building a drop deck, why not use multiple Orion IIC’s?

Good hunting,

I am trying to build at least one deck where all Omnimechs/Mechs are jump jet equipped. If successful I build another.

I'd go with a Wub Nova build or an ASRM6x4 Madcat.

All of them can put the damage out but none of them take hits that well in a brawl.

I have just skilled the Nova Cat Cobra Cat, right now it is the only Hero Omnimech that still has it's original pattern. I ran out out of MC.

My jump jet Drop Deck is Timber Wolf-S,Nova Cat Cobra Cat,Arctic Wolf Blood Kit, and HMN-PA Pahket. 2 heavies and 2 fast mediums.

TBR-S actually got rid of the negative quirks with just a baseline mobility nerf across the chassis recently. TBR-S is a decent performer still, for FP I don't know if ranged laservomit is still king or not but you can always throw a TBR-A Left torso on there.

I have 2 clan brawlers at 70t and 75t that I trust to carry the day (or a wave of mechs).
  • SMN; 5x SRM6+A
Jump capable, good manouverability, good alpha damage, good heat management
Don't forget that the SMN-Prime left torso carries a -10% SRM spread quirk.
  • ON1-IIC-A; LB20-X, 4x SRM6+A
no JJs, bit slower, good alpha damage, good heat management, good armor quirks

Only clam heavy in that tonnage id even touch with a 10 foot pole is the orion2c. Its pretty much the ONLY (albeit still inferior to most IS options) brawler thats actually decentish with the 4 SRM6A and LBX20 loadout. Moves reasonably fast, has limited range and doesnt rely on energy at all, but its about the single brawler 75t clan has thats good at all.

If you wanna brawl with lasers, the only thing i can think of is a linebacker with 6 MPLs, which actually isnt half bad at all if you like the idea of fast and reasonably tanky but not quite enough of a kick to solo anything reliably.
