Have to say I am torn. Next to the Vindicator and Rifleman the Vulcan holds a soft spot in my heart from TT. But have sworn off buying mech packs based on the constant disappointments from PGI.

But this is a new day. Solaris is out and it has me at least considering spending some USD. But still on the fence so let the the community to decide!

If the majority of the community responds BUY THE VULCAN then will buy the ultimate pack.

If the majority says NO WAY JOSE then wallet stays closed.

So what will it be?

Buy the standard as early adopter, there's no reason to spend the whole $70 on the ultimate before quirks are announced(with the hardpoint meta limitations, they're gonna make or break it.)

Throw down for the basic, get the awesome decals for the EA expenditure, and wait to see if you wanna grab the rest of them.

If you don't have the locusts go for the flea since it will match speeds with the lcts. Knowing how pgi love to nerf lights go for the 20 ea.

Its likely to be bad. It is a 5 ton heavier Firestarter with worse mounts.

Pre-order the standard pack along with the Hero, cause that Bloodlust has the best potential to be top tier mech. Refund if you want after quirks are announced. Do not buy the reinforcement pack, cause the variants are too similar.

"BUY THE VULCAN"

If nothing else, you will be helping to fund two important things: PGI's fight against Harmony Gold, and Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries.

The hero variant can be a better Assassin with MGs, but the rest of them are... painful to behold in terms of hard points.

It's going to be bigger than a CDA, but with less E hardpoints, BUT with useless B hardpoints (that is: not enough B to boat mg, and 40 tons are not enough to mount big guns).

My BT nostalgia has been destroyed by PGI, when the Phoenix Hawk has been released. Thanks to silly volumetric rescale, btw.

PGI doesn't do volumetric scaling between different tonnage mechs, only the same tonnage. So 40 tonners have the same volume, but 80 tonners don't have double the volume.

When I preordered the PXH, I was thinking it was going to be at the same height of the BJ.

Guess why it is taller....

And if you wanna LOL, compare the PXH to a catapult :D

The fact is this: bringing realism into a videogame is the worst thing to do.
Sadly volumetric drunk boyz cannot understand this simple rule.

Buy it but the standard pack bro . Nobody really needs 6 variants of the same mech even if its your favorite . You can always buy the rest later , no rush .

You say you been disappointed in the past ? A standard pack is the least risky .

For myself, generally speaking I tend feel I have gotten a good value out of the majority of the mechpacks I have purchased. There are a few exceptions, notably the Nightstar, Uziel and Osiris, all of which I just don't enjoy playing for one reason or another but the vast, vast majority I have purchased have been fun and gave me hours and hours of enjoyment, even if they aren't part of my favorites collection. Also even those duds I mentioned, weren't total busts since I got $12 worth of value out of the premium time and still probably played at least 10-15 matches with each chassis and variant. That is alot of entertainment value for $6 any way you slice it.

That being the case, there really isn't good reason not to buy a mechpack, especially if you don't have hours and hours of premium time. Personally speaking if you don't have hours and hours of premium time banked, I think spending $20 a month on the mechpacks, for every mechpack should be a no-brainer. You get your monthly premium which as I mentioned is $12 of value. Then for the remaining $6 extra you get 3 mech bays, plus usually 20-40 million C-bills worth of mechs, plus like 1000MC worth of colors, plus a 1500MC unlocked camo, 300 MC worth of decals, plus anther 6.5 million C-bills. When you consider most subscription game cost $15 a month, your getting a hell of a deal for what for all intents and purposes is a subscription to MWO.

As for the Vulcan itself, since I am swimming in banked premium time (I am literally set for the next 10 months or so), I don't necessarily see the value of the pack. One of the variants is almost literally a carbon copy of one of the Assassin Variants and the rest are just an Assassin that uses MGs instead of SRM. That being the case it kind of comes down to how much value you put on MGs which I will admit right are are kind of OP as hell. Then again your going to out there in a 40 ton mech instead of tiny little light mech so I am not sure MGs are going to be quite as good on the Vulcan as they are on something like the Arctic Cheetah. Aside form the debatable value over an Assassin which already know is a very good mech, overall the Vulcan looks promising. It is going to be tall but it is very narrow which means it should be a bit hard to hit and the hitboxes should be decent. Hard point locations look ok as well. They aren't super high but nothing, not even the arms is at waist level so your only going to have to show the top 3rd of your mech, maybe, if your hill humping. That being the case, I think from a performance standpoint it is going at least be above average for its weight.

So far more yays than nays with the further advice to just buy the basic. Kind of like the hero though.

Keep the votes/suggestions coming.

I'm kinda fond of the Vulcan from the TT as it's unusual - a spindly, creepy sort of machine - and Alex has knocked it out the park again with this redesign. On the other hand, I'm fairly burned out on MWO at the moment. Going to have to think about this one myself.

The basic pack seems like a safe bet if you want to take the plunge though, though, like others have said. Maybe buy, see how you feel, then keep, refund or upgrade as your feelings dictate Posted Image

It's not my kinda 'mech but if you have all the nostagias then embrace it. Tis better to have risked and lost than to never risk at all.
