So, I've had an idea that I may try to develop or work on as sort of a pet project and keep it unreleased: What would people say to MechWarrior becoming a VR game with motion controller support?

On one hand, neat.

On the other, oh boy, another way for people to play worse.

I dunno. Do we get to aim by looking at stuff? You know, like real life Apache gunship gunners get to do?

Actually, I was thinking about it being similar to what you get out of VTOL VR, if you've seen that on Steam. I'd have to figure out a design for it. Hard part will be coding it, but I'd like to at least learn or toy with it.

How is that game, anyway? Is it worth playing?

Actually, I did a review on that game on Steam. Reference it below in the link.

In short, my rough idea has something similar being usable for piloting a BattleMech, though, coding it is going to be the hard part. I'm still leaning...

Russ said basically the game is too slow. They would have to render everything twice and they're having trouble now doing it once.

Not only that, 'Mech cockpits in MWO aren't quite fully wraparound. It's normally well hidden, but in some mechs like the King Crab it's hard not to see the huge gaps in the cockpit geometry when you look left and right. How much else might be visible as missing in VR is anyone's guess.

Personally I'd be happy with the game running better with a HOTAS, and head tracking... but you know, I'm old school.

To me,playing with VR and aiming with head tracking and doing the rest with a flight stick would feel more like the way a 'Mech game should be played.
