You'll need at least two decks, one for DPS mid range, one for ERLL\Gauss long range. Don't do a short range deck with HGR/AC20/SRMs unless it's a third deck. You can use the same light for all decks if you want to save money.

I agree, this kind of deck should only be used if you are dropping in an 8+ man group and they are all bringing similar builds. If solo dropping, you don't want to be the lurmbait.

I have been getting decent mileage recently in my midrange deck being 3-4 MRM80 builds...

No need to be ashamed of your inner urbie. Urban mechs work pretty nicely, in that combination, having assaults you can make decent use of would the real challenge.

My favorite....

Annihilator ANH-2A, 6 AC2 + TCOMP VIII - Long range suppression fire
Warhammer WHM-6R, 2 HGR + 4 ERML - Mid-long range trading
Warhammer WHM-6R, 2 HGR + 4 ERML - Mid-long range trading
Commando COM-2D, 3 SRM2, ML - Scouting, short range brawl

Good on every type of game.

Some of these mechs are on sale now, too, which helps.

Are you sure those are heavy gauss rifles on the Warhammers rather than standard? I mean yeah, it's possible, but the only build I can come up with with that weapon loadout I just can't see being effective. For one thing it's even slower than a stock Atlas and only has two tons of ammo.

I run a 3 heavy, 1 medium deck of tanky mechs. The marauder 3r has armor quirks. The marauder 5m has structure quirks and actually out tanks the 3r. The quichdraw iv4 is a well known dual mrm30 beast and my medium is a bushwacker p1 with 5 srm6+Artemis. The 2 marauders run identical builds...w lb10's and 4 medium lasers. All 4 of these are super tanky so they work well attacking or defending

Yeah, 250 total damage potential really isn't worth it for all those slots and tonnage used.

Back when my unit was basically the only active Kurita unit in our time zone, i helped dozens of people make cheap drop decks.

In my opinion, the best IS bang for the buck mech is a roughneck 1A.

...But just the 2 HGR *is* possible... but ammo would be tight (3-4T) and you'd only be going 65-66kph...

Undoubtedly, but I was listing my "best bang for your buck" deck, because 2 standard Guasshammers are way more versatile in roles than 2 HGR Hammers. If I wanted to do a light-ish 2 HGR mech, I'd probably use a TNS or VTR so I could get more ammo in there.
