Total newbie here. Just started playing and while I was going through the tutorial I was running around with a Jester. Are Jesters still available to purchase ? If so how ?

Yes. It is one of the Catapult variants. A Hero mech - requires MC to purchase (you have to spend real money to get MC other than the small amounts that can be earned occasionally through events.)

Id advise against spending real money on a catapult... At least buy it knowing that it's a subpar heavy. If you love the mech Im sure you will enjoy struggling to make it work

Note: Try using any other Catapult first before you commit. This said it is a twin AMS, 6 energy hardpoint Catapult with no missiles or ballistics.

I though the Jester was generally considered to be a solid IS heavy? It doesn't have a ton of mounts, yeah, but it's super tiny and rolls damage like a champ.

The Jester is great. Not as great as it was before the skill tree, but you could do worse for a hero.

It's a popular mech but I couldn't make it work. Purchase a chill variant first to get a hang of the chassis then consider it.

Out the field, clearing out a pasture. Took a breather. Checked the forums.

Had to log in just to comment...

Jester is one of the most fun mechs in this game. Running around at 80 to 90 Kkph depending on the build while vomiting 2LL or 2LPLs and 4ERML, or 6MPL or 2Snubs and 4MPL, or 4ERLL, or...you get the idea; plus 2AMS and JJ and a profile that makes it tough as hell.

Yes there are better mechs, with greater alpha, and yada, yada, yada, but the Jester is still one MC purchase I have yet to regret. And on that note, I suppose nerfs incoming. Don't care, it will still be fun. See also Sparky for a similar play style but 10 tons less.

Don't buy heroes until you've had a good amount of practice at the game and have played the base chassis to get an idea of how well you survive in one.

There are certainly better heavy heroes than the Jester.

That said, my friend has a 5 ERLL Jester with a Targeting Computer (TC) and lots of double heatsinks (DHS). Makes a good addition to a long range drop deck for Faction Play (FP). If you're not planning on sniping with it, I don't know what else it would be good at because I don't own one.

Catapult is held back by fragile hitboxes. Big and easy to hit torso locations with no armor quirks. It is good at distributing damage, but that only helps so much when your torso is easy to nail from a 180 degree arc

The Jester is an amazing IS heavy. One of my absolutely favor IS heavy mechs. Great choice for a 1st hero.

I second this advice. If you want to buy a Jester, try the C-Bill CPLT-K2 out first, as it's the only other Catapult with Energy arms, although it is also the only Catapult without JJs.

Still, the CPLT-K2 is a good 'mech itself, so maybe you'll keep that one too Posted Image

Buy Heroes when they go on sale. Otherwise MC cost is steep.

The Jester is a beautiful mech.

Small, fast, mobile, good high mounts, it jumps, xl friendly....

Lots of workable builds. It is the best of the Catapults.

you can buy it in a mastery bundle for $28 which is proly the most cost effective way to buy it or $20 for just it out of the gift store.
try to avoid buying mechs ingame unless there is a sale on as they are dearer using MC

Jester is an awesome mech to strap your pants to . I am pretty sure its a meta , because everytime they have event stats Jester is usually up there with most played IS mechs .
