So being a "newbie" here especially when it comes to lore, i've done a little lore digging (and only a little I admit) and i've developed a few opinions on the various factions.
I doubt anyone actually cares what I have to say about the factions but i'm still interested in the responses I do get. (If any)
Draconis Combine- Samurai. Not much more I can say. I love samurai and respect the code of Bushido. So far, Draconis Combine probably holds the most respect from me.
Federated Suns- Goody goodies as far as I can tell. I got a feeling they attract alot of self righteous types but I don't see them as a bad sort overall. The Fed Suns won't get much ire from me off the bat. (For now at least.)
Capellan Confederation- Chinese? Run by some house Liao. Honestly can't find a reason to like them yet. Will probably shoot first, ask questions about them later.
Free Worlds League- A loose alliance of rabble. Freedom is all well and good but can these guys really 'earn' it? Freedom isn't free after all.
Lyran Commonwealth- Capatalist buisnessmen playing soldier? They got money wich is always good for a merc in my shoes but could Ireally count on them to carry their own weight?
Free Rasalhague Republic- Some vikings who broke off from the samurai. Odd but i'll roll with it. They seem small but defiant. If they're small, they probably don't have alot of money, but I can respect a people who actually won their freedom.
Mercenary Corporations- A varied bunch. While they are obviously not a united force, individually speeking, the Corporatons seem to be more organized and aggressive.
Lone Wolves- This is my catagory. We Lone Wolves roll solo for our own reasons and have little to no organization. If we did we'd be a Mercenary Corporation after all. Of all the different groups out there I think the Lone Wolves are the biggest wild card. Untill the game comes out and we can see what our options are, Lone Wolves will either be a pointless title reserved for people who just haven't found a faction or corporation to join yet. If done right, Lone Wolves could be a title worth something. A person who could swing the tide of battle as quickly as c-bills change hands.
These are just my initial views after skimming some stuff and seeing people on the forums. Anyone else got their own opinions?

Don't forget there are alot of pizza faced adolescent and socially inept dregs claiming to be 'lone wolves' eating carts of cheese until they can change thier allegiance to a certain bloodline.

Eh? EHHH?! lol. Well, the Combine is a bunch of snakes who tend to stab merc corps in the back and treat them like lesser beings. Davians seem to pay well. I agree with you about the Liaos. Lyran Commonwealth is kind of 50/50 for me. Federated Suns seem to pay well, but also might look down upon mercs due to their "noble" standing.
All in all... mercs are just pawns in a large game. All you can hope for is to get the good contracts, watch your back and hope nobody screws you over in the end. Oh, and make enough money to retire eventually.
Personally, I would join a House before I became a merc in this game.
