So I've been experiencing some strange graphic artifacts lately, including flickering and screen tearing while playing MWO. I have a Nvidia GTX960M and a pretty nice laptop setup.

Did some research and found that the latest update of Windows 10 (mine was installed 5/18) can really screw with your graphics drivers. The only way I was able to eliminate the problem was to roll back the latest update, reinstall the Nvidia drivers and do a reset on the graphics drivers ( Win+Ctrl+Shift+B ).

Anyways, if you're having screen tearing issues, consider trying this out.

What about your "Vertical Sync (VSync)" Setting? Is it currently 'On' or 'Off'? If 'Off' and you're having the issues, you might try flipping it 'On' to stop that problem.

Vsync was on in game. But the issue was happening in other apps as well. Windows apparently installs "newer" drivers over the existing good ones and newer, in this case, is not better.

Funny thing is, I rolled back the install, but did not turn off updates. So the next day the problem was back. I went and looked at my update history and Windows10 had applied the bad update again. So I turned off updates for now until the next one comes out and I'll try that then.

Why not just let Windows install the driver, then install a more recent driver yourself once it's finished?

Make sure your graphics card has the right refresh rate set. It should always be default to your monitor but sometimes it can drop down. I know nvidia has the option in the resolution section of the control panel. Is windows updating itself or your graphics driver? Make sure game mode is turned off, too. That likes to turn itself on after updates and cause problems. I've had a world of issues since the most recent set of updates but so far it's all been fixable. Just stupid settings getting reverted.

You can always just do a clean reinstall of your video driver, should give the problem without having to roll back the windows update

Actually, don't let Micro$oft ever install Driver Updates for your Graphics. In the past, I've noticed that Driver Files provided as an 'update' by anyone except the GPU Manufacturer themself tend to mess things up. I've also been hearing from other people that the Driver which Micro$oft provides is actually always older than what people have installed, and it's never compatible with your GPU if you're a gamer. Basically, Micro$oft only gives you enough Driver to make your GPU work within their ecosystem, but not enough for all those great things out there that you might want to tap into. Please try to handle your GPU Driver Updates manually in the future, alright?

Have you changed your desktop screen? Because I had a problem with video tearing. Turns out there was a setting in the desktop appearance that needed to be set. I can't remember exactly what it was. I just changed everything to default setting and everything went way. Course that was windows 7. So might not be the same. But might be worth looking into. Best of luck.

You can disable just driver updates. You have to jump over a few low huddles but that will allow windows to do its own non-driver updates.

Of course, if you had completely uninstalled the driver and re-installed the previous drivers with no change, it is possible Windows may have reset some other windows settings.
