uhm...

who cares?

apart from the fact that it is NOT a Katana depicted on the symbol?

(look at center blade region ("fuller") and Hilt design) i have no idea what it might be but a Katana it is definitely not. Sadly the Guard is not clearly seen if it is a disk or a classic cross guard.

i want to make a remark about japanese /chinese and laio/kurita

a wiki print :

House Kurita
see also Draconis Combine
Strongly influenced by Japanese culture
Capital world: Luthien.
House Liao
see also:Capellan confederation
strong influenced by chinese
capital : sian

look at the names in the houses

the katana is a japanse sword and thus matches the house of Kurita aka Draconis Combine

never mind my remarks , we all are making remarks on a given icon that is been used for decades and nothing can change that. If you would change de dragon in a samourai sword in Kurita for example then the whole meaning for draconis combine would be changed. Dont know why laio has a sword in its icon.

I don't know about you guys, but to me it looks more like a stylised version of a sabre from the India / Nepal region

The sword in House Liao emblem is NOT a katana; It's clearly a dao.

Not sure why or how this became an issue with the OP.

Draconis Combine are using a long trailing dragon. The dragon is more from chinese culture. Davions are supposed to be more french yet they have a broadsword which is more scottish.

The capellan logo is at least a dao(chinese) even if it is remote in history.

stop breaking my immersion!!! lol

Nationalism.

true nuff.
taken from wiki so bear w/ me...but i have heard this sited other places

"The Han Chinese are the largest ethnic group, where some 91.59% [1] of the population was classified as Han Chinese (~1.2 billion). Besides the majority Han Chinese, 55 other ethnic groups are recognised in mainland China by the PRC government, numbering approximately 105 million people, mostly concentrated in the northwest, north, northeast, south, and southwest but with some in central interior areas."

so at least 56 races call China home. they sound more diverse than my country, the so-called "melting pot"
