Maxing out sensor tree adds 30 plus to sensor. I have no idea what that means. I guess 35m more range. The 3l has a 100 sensor quirk so both would be 135m extra range. It also gives me radar dep, faster target info and sesimic sensors.
Using a skill tree builder I'm using: https://kitlaan.gitl...d5f06#s=Weapons
The javlin has very fast speeds but the 3l has the sensor quirk. Having a hard time deciding which would be the best scout. 3l also has ecm and stealth options so there is that to think about. Javlin also has missile which I like to lrm with. Jav also has the extra e point for another laser so it might have better offense with 4x er smls or 3x er smls and tag.
Post some builds and skill tree plans for ideas.

Or, put the 3 lasers and a NARC (plus stealth armour) on his RVN-3L.

With so much Historic Points and little idea what that means in my return, I've slowly gone through the mechs I have, confirming the new setups on Pilot Points with the new Skills system.
So much so that I saved enough C-Bills to buy three mech variants of newer particular chassis, only to review that that aspect is a relic, and that the historic Points avenue grants me more than I initially realized, so next I need to choose to get rid of an Ebon Jaguar or two from some three years ago by now, for more mechbay slots, once I feel good enough to diversify my Mechs. As I get the mechs I want, and the mechs I want to test.
As to the role of a Scout, you can take nearly anything and be a 'Scout,' as what is required is being the first to spot enemies to the benefit of your team.
And having done so with mechs barely going ~48 KPH to get the blip of position with ideally what mech is there, (the new icon classes of Light to Heavy/Assault) cuts that guess work down into bunches of potential options (not to mention using Voice for this).
Therefore, one other tip that continues to serve me well enough, as I re-learn the new systems' interplay, is having Targeting be at 'L-Alt' key as I can use my thumb to Target and Re-Target, as I can keep moving as I need.
So I'ma gonna keep tinkerin' with builds and bindings, and recommend the same, until something just clicks (some build just works).

I just picked up a Spider SDR-5D (build) to play the role of scout sniper on longer range cold FP maps. Should be fast and agile enough to see what the enemy is up to, but enough firepower to keep them constantly annoyed.
edit - The Wolfhound hero, Grinner, does this a LOT better. If you want to buy a hero mech, and want a light, this is the best one in the IS.
