So hear me out...

There's a lot of complaints about people voting for a certain map more frequent than other maps. So let's just tweak it a little...

Like the NBA lottery!

Every "team" (player) will still be allow to "tank game" (multipliers) to increase the chance of certain maps being picked. But, rather than the highest percentage wins, as of right now, it then enters a random generator. Where a certain map will be chosen based on the percentage of chances.

So, it will look something like this...
4 people 1 with x2 multiplier voted for frozen.
2 people voted for grim
1 person voted for solaris
0 voted for terra therma

Every map will get by default, 1 vote. So, that tallies to frozen = 6, grim =3, solaris = 2, terra = 1
Total = 12.

So, there is
50% chance that frozen will win
25% chance that grim will win
16% chance that solaris will win
9% chance that Terra will win

Basically, like the NBA, just because your team is the Philadelphia 76ers, you are not guaranteed the 1st pick for 3 years in a roll. (wait, that happened? WTF?)

1/10 times that the above scenario happens, you will still get Terra Therma. So, that's kinda awesome.

Now, the highest percentage will have the multiplier erased... just like before, regardless of whether the map with the highest percentage won or not. So if you want to build multipliers to skew some odds, you need to vote in a more... random manner.

Cause, say 12 people with x12 multipliers all voted for a dumb map, and by the draw of luck, a 1% chance map won, well... those 12 guys just got really butt sored.

I think this will make map selection helluva fun. It will certainly provide a lot of pre-game entertainment. It's like gambling with no money involved, and everybody gets free chips to participate.

Everyone wins!

Yeah, you can invent really convoluted systems to "fix" the inherently bad design in voting.

Or you could just remove voting and make the map selection random.

Decisions, decisions...

Amen to this.

My favorite map is caustic so I have been doing an experiment for about a couple months now. I ONLY and ALWAYS vote for Caustic. I don't vote at all if Caustic isn't available as a choice. Want to know how long it takes me to get Caustic? About 1 time of 10. Yep, even with a 6x, 7x, 8x multiplier, generally speaking it isn't until I get a 9x, 10x or even god help me an 11x multiplier before I get to play on my favorite map, Caustic and when you consider that you don't get Caustic every time you drop I am only probably getting to play on my absolute favorite map about 1 out of every 30-40 battles I play. Seriously how the frack is that ok.

I mean I guess if your favorite map happens to be HPG your in luck but heaven help you if you enjoy one of the less popular ones.

And if you two above actually understand my lottery system, you will know that weaker maps will appear more often.

We can expect the highest percentage maps to be those maps voted most often right now, right? Well, except an instant win like right now, you still have a chance to lose because of the lottery selection system.

And it's not convoluted at all, how is it convoluted if it's used by MLB, NBA, and NFL? Unless you are admitting that you are dumber than a jock, then yea... I guess I got nothing to say about that,

And the whole point is not random, is because people like a semblance of input. Pure random map set is not fun IMO. People like cold maps, that's the rule from MW -10 and will continue to MW 2000. The only thing is whether it should appear with the same frequency and surety as it is now.

With my system, odds will still favor fan favorite maps, so you are not pissing off 90% of the fan base, but you get increase chance to pick your hot maps. So, all and all, even out, more fun, more awesome.

(Unless you are the type that think this is too complicated. Well, then... I mean, you gotta be good at something. Either math and computer games or sports, so gotta be one of them. You can't possibly fail at both.)

Realistically people want to select their map and game type for the reasons Viktor mentioned. Because of low population we don't get that. It's a clever system, but my guess is people don't much care if it's pure random, your system, or the voting system because we still can't choose the map (or game type) we want to play with that mech.

i want to vote for all the things, not just 4. you can also deal with invalid map/mode combos by graying out options when you pick either a match or mode that excludes something else. then you can weight things first by player multiplier, then by popularity, and then randomly pick one.

in this case options do not get a vote by default. so if an option is presented and nobody wants that option, it is completely excluded. maps take priority over mode if a mismatched pair comes up, so the maps are rolled first and any modes not supported by that map are excluded before the mode is rolled.
