Yeah the tech level will be somewhere between 3027-3039.

I hear the game goes up to 3048/49 so right up to there I bet.

the question will be which NEW mechs are added for it. There is no way they won't have a half dozen new machines/mechpacks ready to go with it.

OK... there is a way, but it would be inordinately dumb, marketing wise, both for MW% and MWO.

I really would sh customization wasn’t scrapped. Biggest let down of MW5.

Is customization confirmed to be completely gone from MW5? I know Russ mentioned something in an article about how he wants players to be excited to find a specific variant of Jenner because it has Ferro Fibrous in it, and that they want to limit mechs to more strictly defined roles unlike in MWO, that doesn't mean customization is out entirely.

MWO's customization is pretty much wide open. If you can fit it in your mech and have the C-Bills to afford it, you can do it. In a game like MW5, customization will be limited by availability. You can put a Gauss Rifle on a Raven if you really, really want to in MWO. The only thing stopping you is your bank account. In MW5, you may be prevented from doing this by an absence of Gauss Rifles on hand. Or an absence of Ravens.

They can also do the lore-friendly route of making refits prohibitively expensive and time-consuming. They could limit it by requiring you to utilize workshops that are only present on certain systems. They could limit it by forcing you to find an engineer with the right skills for the job, and the right materials to accomplish what you're trying to do. For instance, in order to upgrade your Jenner to have Endo Steel, you might need to find a supply of Endo Steel components, a specialist technician who is an expert on Endo Steel refits, another technician who is an expert on Jenners, a facility with the tools and willingness to do the job for you, and the money to pay for it all.

I think they know one of MWO's strengths is it's customization. If they gave the same to MW5, it would make MWO more defunct.

Although I like the idea of needing to travel to specific planets/systems to do specific refits. It would certainly give you a reason to explore the inner sphere. Which would extend play time by diverting you.

If anything, MW5's release should attract some attention for MWO from MW5 players new to the franchise or those who haven't given MWO a look. Sure, playercounts will probably drop on release day as MWO's playerbase flocks to MW5, but it will climb back up as people finish the campaign and want to fight some actual human-piloted mechs for a change.

customization should be much more limited. The mechs stop being unique if you customize half of them to work in exactly the same manner. Also some mechs have customization lore and fluff which get thrown out of the window. I would love to see that in MWO but sadly its way too late.

You could also balance mechs like that: one of them has good quirks but it is a bracket build with 4 weapon groups which are too difficult to make good use of. Another one has no quirks but the weapons are optimized for one role and you only have two groups to manage.

Allow customization but for heavens sake don't translate stock mechs directly from the the technical manuals. Adjust them so they don't completely suck, especially the ones that even in lore everyone knew was trash.

That’s the list for the accepted world championship mechs. My hunch is why not attempt to sell your next game by using your main event as the advertisement platform.

So yup I’m serious about my hunch but no it’s definitely not confirmed and 100% speculation on my part.
