Do you higher tier guys run the same machine all the time? I have 77 gals now, I usually run 2 champions back to back, then skill a newer machine. Is there a better way to do it?

I run about 6-8 mechs each session, 3-4 of them I usually level, for the rest I just accumulate more exp in case I want to change build, which I do A LOT for particular mechs, which I haven't yet convinced myself they are fun/strong enough.

Running 2 or less mechs would be extremely boring for me, but I know that some people literally run only one. While it is good for stat padding to run single meta OP mech, it makes game very stale experience IMO.

No, do so, if you have enough cash to fork over for MC. It will definitely save you from grind pain and is one of the decent ways to spend MC (especially during discount event) aside from cosmetics. and occasional non C-Bill mech you want.

I tend to play mechs to skill them, then they sit in the mechbay. So I pick flavor of the week to start, play till I get that 2x exp win, then next mech. If I fall in love with a mech, I may play it to mastery. If I have been getting hosed for a few days, I might fall back on a mastered mech for a few matches to boost my morale, or just as likely troll with a wacky build that I know I have a chance in. If an event is going on, I am more likely to take something that can fulfill the challenge, even if it is mastered.

Edit- this is not a competitive way to play. I enjoy it, but it will not polish your skills.

I try to run one mech for a string of battles, instead of switching mechs/configs every match. I do better driving the same machine a bunch of times in a row.

Naw, I run four mechs a match, and use up every x2 xp I can till I'm outta good drop decks, even on mechs I mastered years ago.

I switch my mechs around to farm the daily XP / GXP bonus on as many as possible. Sometimes when I particularly like a build I run a streak of matches with that mech. Same if I'm skilling out a fresh chassis.

I usually switch mechs after a loss, as long as I felt like I sucked anyway lol.

I play mechs to get the daily 2x bonus. I cycle through as many as possible daily, as a little more than half of my hangar is not fully skilled.

I'll hop around to different mechs based on how they play. I usually just want to play a different style. But I do try to get the first win on anything not skilled out.

I like to play many different mechs and loadouts, but that means my performance is not consistent. I play for fun, not for stats. During an event, I'll usually stick to a couple different mechs and loadouts.

Usually there's one or two mechs I'm concentrating on and I'll do 3+ matches with each of them in a typical MWO session. I might also play one to three other mechs once or twice in that same session.

I change mechs and load outs all the time. I get bored fast just using the same mech and weapon alot. nothing gets dull faster than having only one weapon type so on mechs like jenner-f with only the 3x3 E laser hard points I don't run the mech very long before going to one with a mix of weapons like guns/missile or missile/lasers.

I play what I feel like playing. If I do well, I might drop in it for another 1-5 matches. I rarely play something more than 10 matches in a row. Usually I average ~2 matches per 'mech per session, and I run anywhere from 2-30 matches depending on how much time I have and how pissed off I get.

I focus on one mech for long stretches. I think most players jump around from mech to mech, but I hate doing that. Dunno if it matters because I see both kinds of people doing well on the leaderboard. If you told me to choose, I'd say specializing in a mech will improve your performance, but I'm biased.

I say just do what you find most fun.

I usually run 2-6 mechs a session. I usually at least one IS and at least one clan mech just for a bit of variety. Then I usually play one of my heroes and generally just jump around in my stable of light and medium mechs while my heavy and assault mechs look on cry while gathering dust because there aren't any PvE for me to really enjoy piloting those things.

I usually let the games decide. I'll typically drop in a mech and if I do well, I'll stay in it for a while. If I don't do well, I'll usually choose a different weight class.

Not specifically higher tier, but I'll share my experiences.
It depends. Pre-skill tree, I'd get the mech (you had to get 3 mechs variants of 1 chassis to master the chassis) then play these 3 til they're mastered/elite or til I felt it was not worth it anymore then change chassis.
Now, because of my previous habits, all mechs I wanna play can be mastered immediately due to HSP or GSP. So I don't play mechs to level them anymore. What I do now is rotate whatever mechs I feel best fits the shenanigans my unit wants to roll with. But when things get to painful, there are always a few mechs I fall back to for some morale boosting, the madiic, maulers 1R and Mx90, cyclops Q and S, dwf, Victor, hbr, phakhet, hbk2c.
I've not leveled mechs the hard way since the skill tree roll out so this may not be as relevant to you tho. That said I do have 50-100 mechs not skilled up and am thinking if I should use my HSP on these or just leave them til I need to spec a variant to something I need
