IF you use LRMs you should always pack TAG. It is almost always more useful than a medium laser. Same goes for IS streaks in my experience.

really depends on boatiness. full on boat its ok, but if you can match or best your lrm alpha with a laser alpha, you can treat the missiles as the backup weapon, but not be entirely dependant on them.

Streaks, yes. But I am too potato to not be able to fight back when the lights find me.

tag> tcs. The smart lrm-ers always have tag unless they are in the cptl-a1 as it has no E port. Any other mech requesting locks will be mocked and then mocked again. Even the A1 can narc at a loss of five tons minimal which is enough to narc each enemy mech once.

C/Bap should be required equipment to mount any lrm by now. OH mech lab here it seams your mech has a single lrm 5, I can't let you add lrm ammo or upgrade to artemis until you mount clan/beagle active probe. One ton or one and a half ton is all it takes. Tag is just one ton and one E slot. Even the lct-1v can use a tag.

There are times that a TC works well with some missiles. Keep in mind the lock-on bonus, now this is situational. I run a TC1, probe and full info-tree on a Huntsman that carries 3 streak 4's,2 ERML, ad 4 SRM4's. (I know, have been asked many times why the combo but I can fire off all 7 launchers with no ghost heat, try it, you may like it, I do Posted Image) Would think that would work well with ATM's as well.

Almost insta-locks for the streaks and insta-paperdoll for knowing where to put the lasers and dumbfire launchers into your target.

On a LRM boat, you would probably prefer a tag/narc and a probe.

TAG works alway great at any situations except stealthy one.
It is not giving you to some fancy buffs like accerate projectile verocity or crit expected chances.TAG hasn't works for those.
At beggining of time myself start using TAG, I just thinking it is only usefull for reduce locking time and uncover ECM protected mech'.
But nowadays I recognized the most powerfull parts of TAG are versitile eco frindlyship and improves missiles spreading.
I don't think I have to explain what is versitile eco frindlyship for but considering missile spreading is the crit.
PGI should put option always TAG or cycle TAG on interface somewhere.

From some of the replies, it sounds like some people still believe the Targeting Computers decrease missile lock-on time. Targeting Computers decrease the time it takes for an enemy's paperdoll information to load into your HUD. They do NOT decrease missile lock-on time at all. The only things that speed that up are NARC, TAG, and Artemis.

Ok Gen Lee, I've tested it and yes it does unless they've changed it in the last 3 months.

redact: Ok, guess they did change it, just checked and my partial streak Huntsman is locking slower...shame...

So have I. Targeting computers do absolutely nothing to lock-on time for missiles whatsoever, and I even check from time to time just so I can slap this down otherwise. Heck, the TC doesn't even modify missile weapon fire in any way, shape or form.

Better option, get. Mech that has more direct fire hardpoints and keep the TC... or you can be one of those easy kills I love by boating IS lrms... your choise.

Why? BAP does literally nothing for LRMs.

Only TAG, Artemis, and NARC have effects on lock-on time etc. BAP speeds up targeting time (target info gathering), which doesn't really provide any benefit to LRMs. Unless you absolutely want to launch while an enemy ECM mech is standing within your minimum range using BAP to counter the jamming, but in that case you have other problems.

I've seen too many lrm/streak srm combo mechs. A BAP would have let them shoot back and win a few times too. Instead they just have to stand there and die to an ecm light. Do you forget BAP also increases sensor range? An aggressive lrm boat can get their own locks without tag with los. I've done it in both qp and testing grounds when I went through all my lrm boats to find their sensor range limits.

Having a 937m tag is nice unless you're facing an object that isn't a mech. Only the most foolish would lrm from that distance or the 1135m max of lrm for most lrm boats. A few mechs can lrm farther but I won't name them or they'd get nerfed. I troll with one when I just don't care about winning and just want to have fun lrm-ing for a few matches to relax.

We don't hate you. But that specific bit is like cancer to newbies, so it gets stomped out hard.

BAP being an ECM shield is the biggie- in most cases though, extending sensor range means you're able to lock and fire at ranges your missiles can't reasonably hit, simply because they're slow shots. If you're using Streak missiles, you -absolutely- should include BAP/Active Probe.

LRM effectiveness has rarely been about how far your missile can fly, but how fast it gets there. Flinging spitballs at 1000m+ isn't very effective due to travel time, even if it's something with velocity quirks.
