Is there a button to assign all historical xp and skillpoints on all mechs or do i have to assign it manually on 40+ mechs at a single time.

You have to manually do it, but your lucky you only have 40+ I have 800+ but it goes pretty quick when you get used to it.

You can also save and load skill profiles to make it faster.

At least you can use Skill Tree profile export/import feature now to save quite a lot of time.

Just skill up the mechs you use the most, and go from there. You don't have to skill up every mech in a day.

There are for real only 5 different skill trees to run with little variations in between.

Yes, don't skill up too many to start. Just do your favs and test them out. If you adjust the trees later, you'll burn through points quick.

I play the same 8 mechs exclusively out of my collection of 120+ because so many mechs are borderline useless in MWO
in short, skill out your mechs as you get back into playing them

i just end up doing the same thing on every mech. at least mostly the same thing. theres some variation. like slow mechs get more mobility, torso side for big mechs and legs side for smaller mechs. i usually always go for armor side on the survivability tree. operations usually gets filled out inversely proportional to the mechs heat rating, extra for energy boats. i usually do some of the sensor tree, but typically no more than half unless its an ecm/stealth build. i stopped doing the consumables tree back when they nerfed airstrikes, id rather spend points on nodes that matter for the entire match instead of the split second when you use consumables (unless its an fp build). i usually avoid jump jets all together. any remaining nodes gets spend in the firepower tree on nodes relevant to my loadout.
some of the skill trees could simply be replaced with sliders to set the investment level and nothing else. only a couple of trees have branching that matters. you could do one of those multi axis skill systems you see in mmorpgs. be a lot simpler than what we got. but generally speaking it doesnt really bother me anymore.
