Disco Mechs

Why in 8 cases out of 10 player who disconnects, can't load into the match or standing AFK for like 5 minutes (sometimes whole match) is a goddamn Assault? How about making some changes for players not to be able to pick Assaults freely as every other weight class but have to somehow earn it?
I may be wrong here, but in my theory, player who knows he's extremely bad (or have connection issues/wooden PC) thinks that with something big, well armed and armored he will have more chance to do better, while it's literally hardest class to play...
Maybe just put some kind of disclaimer warning player that he's "about to get his arse handed to him if he doesn't know what he's doing" before he picks Assault to reconsider?... I'm sure it may help great deal.
P.S. Also request about being able to assume control over discoed/AFK'ed mech after specific countdown still stands.

Confirmation bias. You only really make a mental note of it when the disconnected pilot is in an Assault. It's just as likely to happen to every other weight class and often is due to causes outside the player's control. There have been several times where I've never loaded into a match despite my connection being confirmed solid, purely because the game never moved past the loading screen for reasons unknown. Trust me when I say it's just as frustrating for them as it is for you, I'm perpetually irritated with myself any time I happen to be in an Assault and my connection does decide out of the blue that it will have none of it.

I agree with Verilligo, I think it is more noticeable when it is an Assault. That is a lot of armor to be missing at the outset of the match. I saw two DCs yesterday and one was a heavy and the other a light.
On a lighter note, perhaps after the last one dies on the same team as the disconnected player, the DC's mech could have a disco ball come down, with l-ams going off and the Bee Gees, Stayin' Alive blasting from it, alerting the other team to where it is at. No? Hmmmm too young to remember disco maybe.

I'd be happy if that was the case, but I'm not crazy, well not THAT crazy anyway. Maybe it's just me, or I'm cursed in particular, but even over VOIP or in chat sometimes teammates make a joke out of disco Assault in 80% of cases, whenever it happens. Sure I see other classes going off too, but DEFINITELY not as often as Assaults, and lacking that much tonnage for a round is big... I just want for players with less technical issues and more experience to be potential Assault pilots.

Problem is folks see the big armor and big guns so they are attractive. Especially in tier 5 games with folks wandering out in the open, you can win more 1v1 fights with more firepower and more armor. Only when folks become predictive in their play and start to move in packs are the assaults more difficult and we start to hear complaints about how overpowered lights are. Positioning is not an issue with 24 solo operators wandering around the map. Plus, they don't care about your bad experience when they are afk or disco, they are not there to witness the stomp. Why would any sane player choose to play a light mech or even most mediums with the current game balance? (says the guy who keeps a pretty 30-30-25-15 ratio)

To be completely honest, in my limited experience of piloting, I find Lights EXTREMELY overpowered. Yeah, there are some bad chassis or builds, but if done right it is most forgiving, independent from your team and action packed playstyle you'll get. I seriously don't understand why queue for Lights is low.

You get paid in a light as much as you get paid in an assault? Either you are crazy good in lights or crazy bad in assaults, I can't figure which ...
-edit I hope you take this in the spirit in which it is meant (also I tend to favor lights like the locust that get 1 shot easily)
-edit2 Looks like you also came in after the mobility re-balance and the skill tree. Lights used to be more mobile.
edit3 with the nerf of spl on both sides, lights lost a ton of offense

Lights can rack up assists a lot more easily than assaults, which sort-of makes up for the lower average damage.
They're just super frustrating to play in quick play, because a lot of the time you're basically sitting around doing nothing waiting on someone to engage (beacause engaging a team of 12 by yourself as a light does not end well).

unless you take a splash damage assault and start tearing limbs off from the front, or a dual heavy goose and just oneshot folks with the alpha, or one of the AC stacking builds that just has crazy DPS at huge range. The ambush light really has to work twice as hard, and has to capitalize on existing conditions, where an assault can shape the conditions. And they just got rid of free arm damage. It's a bad time to be a light.

True, but with a passive team you can always wait for the enemy to push in then dive the flank which is sorta the default way I get anything done in a light in QP (I'm bad).

That would be hilarious... the first to die take control of a disco... LOL! A mech you haven't build yourself hahaha that would be funny as hell to drop in such a Mech, quickly looking at the setup and adjust weapons fire keys to our liking.

When ever I use an assauly disco music and dico ball are required in cockpit for when I go afk to deal with things like door bell, cops, fire alarm as steam sets it off, car alarm, kids, dogs, cats, beer refil and I could go on but nope. As forest's friend said on that bumper sticker ..it happens.

I'm not generally talking about payout or match score, but recently I noticed getting somehow more points in Lights, although I perform as usual, dunno what's the deal. But what I'm talking about is by 3-4 kills and 300-500 damage you can definitely say your doing well, right? I mean, it is hard to perform consistently (well) in any other weight class as much as you can potentially in a Light mech, and I don't think it's just my opinion...

IS Lights are literally immortal. I've seen many times Commando or Urbie surviving dual HG shot to its face a little over optimal distance. I've piloted stock Commando and Urbie myself. I couldn't believe my eyes how much punishment I could get and live. XL IS supposed to be risky, but it isn't. I have fully skilled Osiris, and can chug through insane amount of fire at me, unless someone can land lucky pinpoint alpha on my ST, which happens once out of hundred at best. Also ran Locus with XL, unskilled, it's so small, agile and nimble, literally only Streakers could reliably hit me, but I usually steer clear of them, so...

Why not? I don't see problem quickly adjusting to a mech build, in any case it beats hell out of just sitting there on spawn, waiting to get eaten and your team missing out on additional armor and firepower IMO.

Careful there buddy, that sounds like you're suggesting that MWO adopts simulation elements. That's not gonna happen.
