Less than a month playing MWO, got promoted to Tier 3 way too fast (based entirely on frequency of play, certainly not skills or knowledge--PGI might want to consider tweaking that system) and accumulated a surfeit of XP and C-bills on a couple different mechs. My actual understanding of the underlying mechanics of this game is superficial.

I decided it made sense to take some of the excess MC/Cb and purchase a new mech, or two, or three.

When it came time to fill in the Skill Tree for that new mech I found I didn't have enough remaining GXP to purchase the requisite SP. (This is beginning to sound like alphabet soup.)

I figured: No problem, I'll just convert some of the hundreds of thousands in XP sitting in my pilot account.

Problem: The Convert XP to GXP button is grayed out. For every mech.

Again, there is plenty of MC available to cover any such conversions.

I'm clearly missing something about the process. Is the XP earned on the other mechs inaccessible for use on a new mech or am I just neglecting to press some other button somewhere?

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Okay...so, I found it in MECHLAB/SKILLS, in the top right corner CURRENT MECH ENHANCEMENTS window, blue "CONVERT XP >" button.

Still wondering, just from a design perspective, why there's a nonfunctional "CONVERT XP TO GXP >" button on the HOME page.

You used to be able to convert mech XP to GXP. I am reasonably sure you still can but I haven't converted XP for a very long time. Sounds like a bug? Perhaps the mech needs to be mastered first?

I haven't converted in awhile. Maybe it's a bug. I'm glad you figured it out though.

You buy mechs with MC I think.

It's funny because half of the loot bags are GXP which is now semi-worthless.

GXP is one if the most valuable things in the game.

You can use it to unlock skill nodes for ANY mechanical at ANY time without the need if General Skill Points.

The only reason to convert XP to GXP would be to have access to it with another mech, but that still costs MC, which if not earned during events (save up MC for mechbays 1/2 sales) is then purchased with RL monies.

Right. As I said in my OP, I bought a couple mechs with some of the excess MC/CB I had accumulated. However, I prefer to configure the Skills before ever attempting to take a brand new mech into a match (I need all the help I can get) and was seriously short on GXP to buy the needed SP. I had a ton of XP from my most-used mech but was misled by that non-functioning button on the Home screen into thinking it wasn't possible to use that. I suspect I'm not the only one. Finally noticed the Convert button tucked away in the corner of the Skills tab. It looks to me as if PGI overlooked that non-functioning button on the Home tab. I'll see if there's a report link somewhere.

Is this what you are talking about about non-functioning button?

I just checked it, it works. Click on that yellow arrow just to the left of the "GXP" orange label. You will see that the number(currently 0) to the left of it goes up by 25 each time you click it while the XP goes down the same amount. The Transaction cost will also increase by 1 MC each time you click that arrrow.

Now, If you don't have MC, you can't Convert Xp->GXP no matter which menu/method you try.

Generally, I wait until there's a event/sale that increased the conversion to 50XP:1MC.

Good advice. Wish PGI would have another MC sale that includes GXP at $29.95 as well.

The last one's didn't? I only bought the lower tiered ones for the c-bills and GXP.

Please never pay MC to convert XP to GXP... the cost is obscene. It comes out to like $30 to convert enough GXP, assuming you bought MC at the $100 package to get the best deal. The best way to earn GXP right now is to place into the top 500 in solaris, each division is giving 250,000 GXP to the top 500 players when the season ends July 17.
