So I normally get 144 FPS in the training grounds, 100+ when first dropping into a map, and anywhere from 70-90 when actually in a fight.

However, recently I've been having my FPS drop down to the 20s or worse every now and again. And it's really weird because I'll play game after game after game with everything fine and then wham, a game with FPS so bad it's almost completely unplayable. Then the very next game my FPS will go back to being fine.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I've turned all the video settings to low, I run my CPU for max performance, I run my GPU for max performance, I run MWO as administrator, I don't run other programs, drivers are updated, temps are not a problem, etc.

Play in Windowed mode. Have Task mgr or something up and running so when FPS drops you can check if something is eating up CPU (sort by CPU usage), memory (memory usage) or harddrive usage (can also check harddrive light).

Essentially, it is possible something is running during that short time span but you need the ability to check it when it happens. You may want to check your antivirus software and exclude MWO and the separate saved game folder from active scanning (log files)

Yeah, played last night with both HWMonitor up and Task Manager up. Nothing taxing the system whatsoever when the FPS goes to crap. Temps fine. CPU load never goes over 25%. Memory never over 30%.

Disabled Windows Defender. No other anti-virus running.

Uninstalled MWO. Reinstalled. Still happening.

It has cost me a few games in Solaris so far. The FPS always dips when my mech is coming up the elevator. Sometimes it goes right back to 140+ and sometimes it hangs at 20-25 for the rest of the match.

You are talking about load percentage but I am wanting you to check on actual programs, during those times what program was using the most of the load, from CPU to Memory? Also what about the harddrive activity?

Sorry, I was reviewing a previous episode where my antivirus was scanning a very large file.

What were the CPU speeds and GPU speeds during that timeframe? And what about temps prior to the FPS drops, as temp during the FPS drops is not as important as prior to it? All it takes is for one CPU core to exceed thermal threshold to have the enter CPU throttle down.

What is your system configuration? And the last time dust build up was cleared off the heatsinks (computer Posted Image )

Are you running any AA?

I seem to have fixed it.

Was really stumped on what was going on and getting quite annoyed. So I downloaded Razer Cortex, a 3rd party program that is supposed to boost your FPS and game efficiency by shutting down other stuff that might be running in the background or w/e. Figured it wouldn't do jack, but I was desperate so I gave it a shot. And it actually worked. I haven't had a single issue since. I'm back to 140 or so on load in and 75-100 during fights. Haven't had my FPS crash in Solaris which is where I was getting most of my problems.

Still have no idea which program was messing me up. The reason I was confused about it was because there wasn't anything under load when the FPS drops happened. Under Task Manager, nothing jumped to the top of the list screaming "Hey! I'm using up all your resources!" Same thing for temps on the CPU/GPU. The CPU was working hardest when actually loading the match, but even then it was hardly working. I'm running a small overclock on my processor and it idles around 35 and even during load times in MWO it never crests 45 C. GPU temps never got above 60 C at any point.

kinda sounds like windows 10 game mode, which doesnt detect MWO as being a game ... so it probably cant be worse at it than microsoft ....
