Hello warriors!
You don't know me, but I've been here from, well, the very start.
From the Times when you had to make your own low gfx user.cfg to make MWO somewhat playable, yes.
My garage is full of rusty Jenners, Stalkers, Cataphracts and Atlases.
And 6xSRM6 Catapult A1, yes. Don't laugh. That old.

That said, I'm back to see what changed. Please advice >IS< light/medium/heavy build to start over and don't get too much pain and frustration. Its been 6 years from there, the game is nice and balanced, yes? No bugs and all of that? Am I right?

For Inner Sphere I'd suggest the Bushwacker to start. The X1, X2, or P2 for twin/single ballistics and narrow it down depending on the secondary weaponry (P2 if you want energy secondary, X1 for MG secondary, X2 for missile secondary) and the P1 if you want to bring all the SRMs. Just remove the stock XL engine and put a LFE in there (or standard if you want to run a heavy gauss in it) and you're impressively tanky. The Bushwacker waggles its nose to spready damage instead of torso twisting to show the shoulder though, so be aware of that - the long body style is good for straight up fighting but you can get hurt by mechs flanking you.

A good heavy mech compliment to the Bushwacker is the Marauder 3R because you also waggle instead of torso twist to spread damage, it has some structure quirks for increased survivability, and its high torso ballistic mounts are nice (though the arms still have to clear hills to bring the full firepower to bear). The Marauder 5M it a very similar mech but trades a bit of durability for jump jets so is a good option if you want some verticality to your builds.

WLF-2 for a light. Urbies are surprisingly good too. Both those chassis have good heroes currently on sale.

For the Is mediums the Bushwacker is probably the best one right now. Lots of good variants and the hero is pretty good too from what I hear.

For IS heavies the Warhammer, Roughneck, Marauder, and Rifleman seem to be the most popular with the Warhammer as the standout for Faction Play (or Community Warfare as it was once called).

The Annhilator is the king of IS heavies right now, though the C-Bill release of the Fafnir may change that in the future.

You should be able to get some good play out of your stalker.

The main thing though is the learning curve. Players are good and it can be unforgiving out there.

Most of what you have on hand is perfectly fine except for the jenner. The geometry change/ arm armor nerf on them has basically made them the worst of all lights. Other than that, still bugs, still lots of balance issues and theres this crazy skill tree MAZE to navigate and suck away your time/cbills.

Factionplay is a shell of what it was intended to be, and pretty much is considered dead or at the very least smelling like something that died already. Solaris 7 , the current event, is not far behind and isnt taken seriously by most people - if you go in there prepare to be meta gimped into frustrationland the banner into the arena literally reads "Solaris VII: No fun allowed".

Division 6 or 7 for fun most of the time... elsewhere you get munched by the meta-build that you don't think of at first glance.

As far as the splatcat is concerned, it's actually a viable brawler option these days if you toss in a Light Fusion Engine and skill it out properly.

I'm also a returning player from 2012.

It was fun in the beginning, but I uninstalled after I realized I was no longer being a targeted population. I installed MWO again several days ago. I am overwhelmed with all the changes to the game. So far I played a single match. Most of the time I'm just reading stickies and tutorials to catch up with all the changes.

Back when I played, the best way to meet people and play in a premade group was Teamspeak. What is the best way to do it these days?

Is there a working Teamspeak/Discord/whatever for Europeans? Comstar EU isn't working.
