So we are defining "try hard" mech as a mech with the best build (as stated in the OP....and whate is a best build? Highest effective PPFLD, one that uses all tonnage and crit slots)? Or a mech that gets you the best chance at a win? Or the mech that gets you the best personal stats team be damned?

Whatever. I play group queue I take what is available and how knows what that might be in a given evening. But to answer the question as I think it was intended: 'a mech that gets you a win or allows you to carry with a higher frequency than others in your totally subjective "i love this thing" sort of way', well then, I gotta go with an IV-4 because even a potatoish player like me can do well with it.

i think you missed the point... its about what are your best mechs

Gauss Urbie, XL145 with 3 tons of ammo, but paper-thin armor.
LFE100 variant.

Ah! Best mech! Not best build.
An absolutist query if I have ever heard one, but what is my best mech?
Alas, I cannot answer! At least not without being a pedantic pain in the ***.

Do you mean "best" in an aesthetic sense? If so,I must say it is my Black Knight running a mix of PPCs and ML. No better looking mech in the game, so it is best.

But wait! Could it be that you mean "best" in a subjective this is my favorite mech just because it is my favorite and I really can't explain why I love it so, other than I find it to be really fun sense? Well, then, it can be no other than the Quickdraw 4G, though the Jester is right up there.

Or perhaps you meant "best" in the statistically supportable consistent performer sense? If that is the case, then the answer must be the evil Hellbringer with its nasty high mounted energy vomit, followed closely by the MAD-IIC-D.

Or maybe you mean "best" in a PGI like "we only consider the raw data including the outliers and look, that one over there was played twice and "statistically" has better stats than everything else, since you got some kills, did some damage and never died in it so it must be OP! because statistics don't lie!!!! sense? If that is what you meant by "best", then it must be the Wolverine Quarantine.

Or maybe you meant "best" in the sense of what mech gave you the top scoring games you ever played sense? If that is what you meant, then my best mechs would be the Grasshopper 5J, the Splatcat, and a LRMing Pretty Baby are all tied for this sense of "best" mech.

Or maybe you meant "best" in the sense implied by the "try hard" aspect of the thread title: mechs that get my team a win no matter regardless of how I do personally? In that case: I will stick with my IV-4 answer.

To me all of the above interpretations could be an answer to what is my "best build" or as you now clarify "best mech". There are others, as well, but I need more coffee and perhaps a bit of hair of the dog so I shall desist.

(Sorry, I tend to overthink, and lean toward being something of an absolutist when dealing with words...occupational hazard).

There are no "try hard" builds but "try hard" players. Tryhards are those players who copy a build from a reputed player and use it to feel better than they are, as a matter of fact they play better since they use efficient builds but often they will remain oblivious to balance changes and keep playing the same build long after it stopped being optimal.

To get a decent score in my stealth fle-20 w/5 spl requires I try hard....and have a ball doing it. For easy chills i go Rancor all the way.

Is that the precise loadout? because if it is you really need to seriously think about ammo placement.

As it is set up now you have a mech that can survive losing it's left side (due to an LFE) but can't fire weapons because all the ammo is in the LT.

gauss ammo is not explosive so there is no risk to placing gauss rounds into the head and CT slots and allows you to freely sheild with the left side of the mech.

Also you have space to utilize light ferro armor granting you nearly a half a ton of armor to place on the right arm to use for shielding the side torso a bit.

Also upgrading to double heatsinks is not needed and an expense that can be avoided for this build.

This be my version of the dual light gauss hunchback:

https://mwo.smurfy-n...4b5fd679fa52cf9

It has greater movement speed and an extra engine heat sink, a laser AMS

Way less ammo though, so it is more designed for Scouting and being conservative with the shots (extra ammo skills should be taken)

You could remove the LAMS for more ammo but people in Scout love their SRMs...

If I feel the need to kill absolutely everything, the only answer is the MCII-B.
