You don't want to use lasers.

Light Amplificaton by Stimulated Emisson of Radiation

LASER.

Why avoid Lasers?

You have to hold the target.

Consider Light PPC and SRM.

Hit and Run...don't hold the target.

Cos if you do...you're dead.

Yes there are exceptions, but generally holding a target as a light is pain...lots of inbound pain.

Stealth is good. Saw a locust using stealth eat up the rear...was both amazing and painful to behold.

Lasers offer good sustain and for their weight offer solid damage. The downside of short range and high heat are both offset by a light mechs speed. Beam duration, especially on the IS lasers isn't that long. It's even shorter if you use pulse.

LPPC lights aren't going to do enough damage to justify their existence, usually. Lasers are often needed because you have little tonnage to work with, and by coincidence lasers tend to have very good damage per ton.

Lasers do have duration, yes, but some of them like the IS MPL are short enough that it's not detrimental in any way. The Clan side on the other hand does have issues with trying to find suitable light-friendly lasers after the CSPL got nerfed...

You have to hold the target.

Cos if you do...you're dead.

Here are three pro-tricks to not die in a laser-light:
  • Keep moving unpredictable while firing your lazors.
  • Shoot targets that are distracted.
  • Switch attack vectors to stay unpredictable.

Never use weapons on lights, just ram your enemy in the crotch because all lights are op regardless of fraction, chassis type or equipped weapon load out.
