Champion! I was just looking at this mech over on Sarna.net. Was hoping for either this or the Crusader.

Edit: Is it me or isn't this supposed to legs that looked more tilted back? Like the old original Stalker legs on the TT and also older MW games. The crab had the same kind and PGI gave it double-inverted legs and a shorter profile. I feel like this Champion needs the same treatment. The top looks great, the straight legs on it look...meh.

Agreed. The torso is worlds better than the Sarna/TRO art, but the legs are too straight, making it much too tall. Tall + wide is not a good hitbox combo.

i didn't think i'd be too interested in this one, but it actually looks pretty neat. i can think of some solid builds for every variant, the weapon mounts are decent, and it has potentially good geometry. i could see it being a strong mech if it gets some nice quirks to top it all off.

Dang.

Was hoping for an Ostroc, Ostsol, Crusader or a Charger.

Pass again.

I want to give you money PGI!

If next month is Clan, how 'bout a Rifleman IIc, Warhammer IIc, Griffin IIc, Shadow Hawk IIc or Phoenix Hawk IIc?

I'd even spend money on a clan pack if it was one of those.

I ordered the collectors pack.

Random thoughts on builds and quirks:

This mech like a few others has the potential to be a good dead-side brawler mech. The variants with CT hardpoints can either use the right ballistic or left missiles slots and devote the other side to shielding.

With that thought in mind, we don't really quirk mechs for this so if for these variants any ST and Arm survival quirks were concentrated in the CT and the hitboxes emulated the Stalker that would create something unique.

I liked the champion in MW3 but its never, ever been a good mech. I am not expecting much from this one especially with those hardpoints its gonna need to have some Roughneck levels of overcranked quirks to be more than a hill humper. Seems like its just the 'safe and easy' bet for PGI with its rehashed warhammer legs, old unoriginal tech and not a IS omni. (Whats holding back the Sunder, Avatar, owens and Strider.)

So did anyone else see the color of Honey Yellow and think it said Harmony Gold?

The hardpoints definitely work with my play style. I'll probably get this.

Oh well, I was expecting others like Crusader, Avatar, or Lao Hu.

But I very much want this thing even more so on the other game than here, sure I love my Grasshopper but it is good to have variety.

At long last! I've been waiting for this mech for the sole reason of owning a Champion Champion! PGI please release the Champion version of the Champion Day One!

[...]...While definitely faster and more maneuverable than other heavy 'Mechs, it was criticized by many for being too large, underarmed and underarmored....[...]

An other linebacker, but with huge long leggs and large profile and without clan dmg/weight ratio advantage weapons.

As we say in germany, this is the "crown of the creation"... lol (irony off). The award of the least logical mech in Battletech probably goes to the "Champion"! It got 2 Arms, but no Hands or weapons in it. So why would you give that poor creature arms?

Its like the task for the engineers and developers was: Built a mech with 60 tons, but they stopped at 55 tons with weapons in LT and RT so they were like "Well, lets just put 2 Arms on it, each with a weight of 2,5 tons, but no Hands, or it would be 61 tons!". Also: " Lets put just upper actuators in it!"

Actually it looks like a poor mix between a plane and a human. Like a transformer who didnt finish to develope properly...

Beside of that... might be a good brawler? I dont know...

What I'm seeing is a mini-Marauder with some nice possible standard engine builds. HGauss, 2xRAC5s, 3xRAC2s, 2xLB10X, each with a standard 250 to 275 engine in it to keep its speed and maneuverability up when a ST is lost.

The Standard 250 to 275 engine versus a 250LFE to 275LFE is only 3 to 3.5 tons extra (less if it allows you to use ferro/light ferro) and for that extra weight you get zero speed and heat penalties when losing a side torso. Not a bad trade for the weight cost, especially since you just have to do the Bushwacker/Marauder glance to the side to take the hit in the ST rather than show the shoulder like in a humanoid mech.

Probably the new Unseens from Macross will no longer be in agreement with HG.

There's only 4... the longbow art was originally the phalanx, the wasp and stingers were the VF-1S and VF-1A Valkyries (respectively), and the Crusader was the VF-1J with armored pack. The 30 ton Valkyrie actually wasn't a macross at all, other than the name. Its legs resemble the Incubus, the head ok looks like the one from Wasp but the torso is completely different. Yes one of the two 20 ton ones would be nice given we lack an IS 20 ton with jump jets, but we really don't need another 85 ton missile assault, or a 65 ton missile heavy.

This guy gets it.

@PGI Staff
Grats PGI on winning the lawsuit. Queen is an awesome band to connect with considering the movie coming out later this year. And yes, you can't help but link this mech to that song. Great shield arms devoid of all hardpoints save for a few variants, BTW. Will buy it. You deserve it.

You certainly have no time for online losers too. Keep being you, PGI, for you have found true peace from the noise. And that's a wonderful feeling.

Nice to see the Champ show up. it's a Classic. and for all your guys wanting the Civil War-era stuff, just give PGI time to get MW5 out. I want my Rakshasa and IS Omnis too, but i'm willing to wait if we get a few more classics. (and we did get several nice civil war era mechs earlier this year, like the Blood Asp and Fafnir, and most of the Flea variants.)

Hmmmm... Well, that's not what I initially wanted but still interesting....I guess it will have all the same cons and pros of banshees...Might finally buy a pack :)
I just hope PGI will make proper animations THIS TIME.

Why do people think that biting the hand that feeds is a good option?

https://mech.nav-alp...1be4503_CHP-1N2

as a an example, using the arms to shield (cause they sure as hell can) this will chew through enemies quite easily and the ability to duck in and out of cover quickly, also helps this build a bit.

EDIT- okay I do have one complaint.....all of these builds have a lot of build variation, that means build ADD. Dammit PGI why must you give me options!
