The Match Maker will now direct matches played by EU and OC opponents to the NA servers.

That was in the recent patch notes.

Did I read that wrong or are they turning off the EU and OC servers?

Nope, they just don't give one side preference and both teams send to 100 ping server instead of 300+40 servers

I think what it's meant to mean is that if you have all three servers selected then the matchmaker will no longer combine EU and OC players on either the EU or OC server - the match will instead be hosted on the NA server

So it implies that:

OC server will only host OC and OC+NA player matches
EU server will only host EU and EU+NA player matches
NA server will host all other matches

So if you are EU switch off OC server to get more EU matches and vice versa?
Or leave them all on to get quicker matches on NA server?

I liked it better in the old system, we have just one server in the NA.

Yeah, take all the money used to maintain EU and OC servers, and add more NA, then have everyone play on NA.

You do realize people play this game outside the US? I don't want my ping screwed just because some people can't be bothered to select the server closest to them. Playing with 150-200 ping was a pain in the *** due to the server authoritative netcode, I don't want to go back to that system. EU servers were a really good decision and they should stay.

I do realise, I'm one of them. Ping should not be an issue under 400ms or so the tryhards tell me, thanks to HSR.

Don't be ridiculous. Even 150 ms gets uncomfortable to play, adding noticeable delay to every action. Zooming, locking targets, everything has this annoying delay because you have to wait for the server to tell you that it's okay to do whatever you're trying to do. You also start seeing unacceptable levels of warping and stuttering when ping hits about 300 ms. At that point, just hitting anything becomes difficult.

Tell that to the tryhards in Oz defending their OC server while the rest of the world connects to OC with 350-450ms pings.

You do realize you can set the matchmaker to connect only to one of the servers? You can only blame yourself for this.

This hasnt been true for many years. gameplay is more or less relatively smooth to around 300ms, specifically thanks to HSR and BSR. once you go over 300ms, and especially once you reach 400 it becomes pretty bad althoigh they moved things like zooming and locking targets server side some time ago.

I can attest to all of this as Ive been playing mwo since closed beta with (initially) a 300ms ping that is now down to 180 on EU and 240 on US (perfectly playable), although the new AU server is really bad at 400ms+. I was also in the UK recently and played a little there and there isnt that big of a difference.
