I don't post here often but feedback was request here and so here's a hopefully concise overview of the impression I got playing between 10-15 matches and spending a few hours messing around in training.

The laser changes don't feel like they make a huge impact on the stated targets aside from making them harder to avoid at range.

Clan lights and mediums seems to have taken the brunt of the changes as they typically don't have the tonnage or critspace to switch to the larger weapons these changes favor and their usual weapons run hotter in actual matches thanks to shorter cool downs and heat reductions that don't really cover the other new values. Furthermore, the smaller energy weapon changes require longer engagements and face time that don't suit mechs with less armor and structure.

The Gauss change makes little difference against less mobile mechs that can't twist well where as those that can still twist will often be able to control where the gauss shot will land as the laser burn finishes. This further widens the gap between more mobile mechs and those that are more sluggish.

Overall, I dislike these changes and the impression they left me on the direction of the game has made me wary of spending money on either the dropship sale which I had planned to take advantage of before this was announced or the alpha strike sale which I would have otherwise.

It does seem like mediums and lights are the ones that will suffer the most under these changes. At least assaults and heavies can afford to use heavier weapons and more dubs. Which didn't get hit as hard. General consensus is that C-ER Medium was hit too hard. Personally I think they should reduce heat and duration. Making it more ideal for lights and mediums.
