I see lots of references to the 1980s & 1990s when I play this game.
The original Battle Angel Alita comic/manga was released around that time. A little after the first Ghost in the Shell.
I didn't personally read the manga til around 2015. Its a bit on the dark side. Like Ghost in the Shell the punchline and some of the implications of the original series are supa cool. Especially for something close to 40 years old.
James Cameron is rebooting it.
