if you want to reduce alpha you need to break synergies. specifically between the ermed and the lpl/hll and other similarly ranged lasers. current synergies allow huge gh-free alphas in several mechs. i dont want to eliminate huge alphas but i do want to see them cost something. to me this is preferable to reduction in damage. im also not against an increase in duration in addition to gh group refactoring for the clan (is gh groups are mostly sane). here is what im thinking:

close quarters group

er micro
micro pulse
small pulse
heavy small

moderate range group

er small
medium pulse
heavy medium

ranged/heavy group

er medium
large pulse
er large
heavy large
