Hi yall,
Spending the time I would've otherwise spent playing to let yall know how I really feel about this game.

I have played MWO since a buddy of mine told me about it in late 2017. Pretty new for a lot of yall here I know I know - I just want to tell ya where I'm coming from as a new player. I really enjoyed the game and I am VERY glad I tried it! I even found myself buying Premium time and a few Champion/Hero mechs to play with - I have had a BLAST with this game. I tell every PVP gamer I know about this game.
Some of them even download it and get the CRAZY Idea that we can actually play it together....

Well, that's where the fun time ends.

I know, KNOW for a fact that there MUST be some little quirk of the system, some small nuance, some "non-issue" for literally EVERYONE ELSE who plays this game - that causes my small 2 person "Group" to be STUCK in matchmaking forever.
I know there is.
Because IF THERE WASN'T a completely DUMB reason this happens to me, I wouldn't have this problem. It would've been patched long ago and none of this would be a thing for me now.

All I want is to throw down with some nerds like the guys in B33fs old videos, hell, even just SOMEONE who knows AS MUCH about MWO as I do. But how can this happen when 2 PEOPLE CAN'T EVEN PLAY TOGETHER?

I try everything, They start a group, I start a group, Change mech classes, select specific regions.... Nothing. NOTHING. NO MESSAGES NO INFO NOTHING. Just "Searching" for 10 minutes at a time.

Works like a charm 3 times until it doesn't anymore.

5 people in the world play this game I guess.

Bottom line: I admit I must be dumb/doing it wrong/ KYS/DRINK BLEACH/ all of the above.... Yall can BLAME my PC and My Internet and my setup in my house ALL YOU WANT... But there is a small and STUPID fix for this total B.S. - and the Devs CAN FIX IT.

It's the CRUX of your GAME HOW do people START "UNITS" of players when, they can't even PLAY TOGETHER? Guys c'mon.

My proposal is this.
Devs, in your board room, look at the game as it is today - with all your cool and fancy E-Sports jazz you put into it.
Love your game for a minute cause it's beautiful....
Now get rid of the group matchmaking pools. Solo guys and groups, everyone together in the matches, because waiting for other groups at times just NEVER HAPPENS. Groups want dope group play? Isn't that what the who faction thing is for?
By the way you COULD HAVE got some more money out of me for that mode but - I could never figure out WHY I couldn't just play a faction fight? I gotta BUY dropdecks and flip a card and slap the buzzer not this one but that one.... I'm down with simulators I play Arma, but this who faction thing makes ZERO sense it looks wide open and cool and "hey CHOOSE A SIDE" then...... Can't play it. Can't figure it out. No matches, etc.

That aside, PGI You really can do this I believe in you.
Find some other EQUALLY MESSED UP WAY to make a system for the 20 thousand people who don't play this game- and while you are at it maybe do something for the folks who are still here. Let them play together, YES even the stupid ones, YES even the ones on wifi YES - WHY???
Because it's 2018, you run a business and new customers AIN'T HERE unless they can PLAY YOUR GAME with a pal or two.

Really I'm burnt about this, I have been burnt for weeks and I just don't feel like playing anymore because all I do is play alone, every game.

This is such a stupid problem.
I leave and what? I know at least 3 other guys who play alone sometimes.
How long will they be here?

I personally would suggest you to join a unit. You and your friend will have much better chance of having drops in group queue, if you got unit mates available to fill in some numbers. Plus, better socialization.

I am so confused on so many of the issues...

1. What timezone do you play.
2. What group thingy, I don't even get that one.
3. Faction thing right now is Kurita vs Davion only. So you do have to switch sides to do those (probably why the "fight" button is greyed out) But since PGI got rid of any faction switch penalty a while back, you should be able to switch faction with impunity.

1. irrelevent - Playing with friends in a "party" (hope you can understand what that is) shouldn't be governed by some irl sun god.
2. ^ It's that thing called a "group" that you make in the social tab when you want to play with someone.
3. About this davion kurita business - it has nothing to do with my issue, it started since the last time I sat down to play with a friend. We went to play and talked for 20 or 30 minutes before we called it a night.

Thanks for your lil invite bud but interface help isn't what I need and you can keep your discord.
Maybe I'll save future replies for people who will read what I took my time to write - albeit with my characteristic stylings.

The game doesn't really cater too much to small groups. Which has always hurt it. Many a thread of people saying they can't really play with their friends because they get stomp by larger groups.

People wanna play it casual with their friends. But the game requires you to drop at max tonnage and work together over coms to keep competitive against larger groups that are better coordinated and have more established players.
It's been suggested multiple times they allow 2s in solo queue. But teamwork will give one side the edge. And if 2 people drop both in heavies with their meta builds and coordinate fire. While the other team's 2s are just goofing off. It creates even more landside victories.

If we wanted to increase new player retention. Offering more options to smaller groups is a good start. Everyone is all worried because comp players are leaving the game. But the game will persist by how well it retains new players.

(Also what time you play does matter. It's a small game with a small population. If you're dropping when it's the most inactive, of course you're going to be waiting.)

Yeah, don't give up yet. There are plenty of units that are looking for fresh blood, so ask around. Mercstar training unit is currently full, otherwise I would have extended an invite.

From description, it feels exactly like interface issues. Timezone because there are low population time when it takes a while to get drops. Group, again, no idea, I never had trouble finding group, especially as a team of 2 because it's possibly the easiest number to fill.

All of which, I believe with a quick walkthrough of the entire interface, I believe can be solved. But it's aight, throwing salt in someone's face for a very unique and specific issue that you are having is quicker. Believe me, it took me a while to read through your entire rambling and offer good will.

Incorrect. Your ability to get a match directly correlates with the population that's presently in group queue, which operates on an entirely different population from single queue. If you're regularly playing at a time of day when there aren't many people in group queue, then you're going to have a hard time getting a match. Now if you're trying to say that it SHOULDN'T be governed by that, then I can understand your position. But the reason GQ and SQ was separated was because of instances where two (or more) very good players would group up on the same side and utterly wreck all opposition. Personally I happen to think that's normal for most games and just indicates the game's matchmaker needs an extra layer of complexity, but PGI decided to take the other route. Shrug.

But no, you're likely not doing anything wrong. It very likely isn't your computer and it really probably isn't anything to do with your connection. GQ is just slower to get matches with, particularly on off-hours or when there are a lot of groups queued up that have the same number as you. You could try an odd number of group members to try and force the system to pick you in order to match up with another group of an odd numbered size, but it sounds like you would have to conjure up extra people from thin air. Particularly given you seemingly have no interest in joining a unit... or taking advice... or offering token courtesy to others that bothered to try helping...

2 mans often have to split up to play solo if they can't find a 4th because wait times can be 15-1hr waits between matches. So, just don't play them> unless it is during the NA prime times as that's usually fine. Some days the EU prime times are too dead for 2 mans so those are hit or miss.

I am not sure why wait times are so terrible for 2s and 3s. I don't know what group number is optimal and which isn't but I wouldn't have thought that 2s and 3s are the worst to jigsaw into teams. But they are. By a hell of a lot.

Also note there is a FP event going on so regular group queue is extra empty. So just play FP until the event is over as there are plenty of drops for 2 mans to be had if you want matches. After that, play at a different time or always make sure you get a 4man or you might have a lot more hamster wheel and loading then actual playing mechs

Jokes aside MS, 07, BCMC, are all good places to get your merc on.. if you want to go loyalist then thats a big list depending on witch side you want to be on.

I have to say I'm a bit puzzled by the OP's issue.

Nowadays I drop almost exclusively with my significant other in 2-man groups. We have no trouble finding matches. Sometimes it takes a while, sometimes it's instantaneous.

But we're never forced to sink drop..

She plays on a mid-spec laptop. I play on a high-spec desktop. No issues with finding matches whatsoever..

The ONLY issue we have with dropping in Group Que is that after a certain time, about the North American prime time (after about 19h in Europe) all the big units start to rear their faces, so we tend to get stomped by premades, at which time we usually stop playing.

So I really don't understand where the OP is coming from..

Played with a friend in a 2 man group 2 months ago, worked fine (I just don't prefer solo queue myself, so don't play that often with groups). Know several people who regularly play in groups and have no issues. It's you.

Dropped in just last night in a 3 man, then a 2 man group, as one left early....... longest wait was about 3 mins.

As for the OP:

Result: NO

2: Use voice comms
Result: stick your voice comms
