Atlas, Cyclops isn't all that strong in comparison (it will beat the snot out of most other mechs though).

it really depends on the variant, battlefield and the pilot. 1on1 slaughter guns blazing is surely in Atlas's favor.

The Atlas wins if it's one-on-one, but the roles of the mechs are different. The Atlas is a front-line assault mech while the Cyclops is a good command mech with useful electronics in at least some variants. In lance-v-lance or company-v-company it's not so clear-cut.

The Cyclops is lighter, weakly armored and underarmed for an Assault Mech.
The Atlas on the other Hand has a well balanced Weaponry for all ranges and a realy heavy armor.
So the Cyclops has little chance in an one on one. But the Cyclops primary role isn't Combat mech. Its advanced Command, communication and Control equipment makes him the ideal Platoon leader. So if you spot a Cyclops, you've either just won the battle and you're about to kill the Commander or you're surrounded and the next thing you will see is several hundred LRM raining down on you.

Ummm... Yeah. As far as a command mech, hands-down the Cyclops...
Assault-mech slugfest?... Atlas. The Cyclops only has 10 Tons armor, limited weapons.
...If you added the Highlander into the fray though...
