I have 100mb uploand and 20mb download wired connection through Cincinnati Bell. Over the past few weeks I noticed that my ping on the US and European server jumps to the 500-700+ range. During the day its around 40-50.
I only have selected the US and European servers to play on but I have also noticed the Oceanic server stays consitant in the 220 range during the day and at night. I find it odd that the two servers I play on suffer from some major ping from about 4pm to 10pm each night.
I do leave MWO logged in throughout the day and night many times so I can snag a quick game here and there.
1. Could the MWO server be throttling me down because I stay online?
2. Could my ISP be throttling the US and EU servers since it sees me playing on those in the evening?
(Cincinnati Bell claims they do not throttle; I'm in Ohio)
I ran a speed test and the upload/downloads run in the 80-100mb download and 17mb upload.
Is there a way to actually see if my connection to the US and EU servers is having issues?

Since net neutral went piff, the U.S. is prone to throttling. It is really bad now, especially at night or in areas away from large cities. Often times now computers that run fast can't do much. Might as well go back to dial-up, which is often faster....now.
"Hey, what's wrong guys. My 486 works great!" lol.

I think that might be the case. Right at 8pm it jumps from 43 to close to 400. Nothing else changes at the house. Would running VPN help fix this issues? I know it impacts speed and PING. Does anyone play using a VPN?

First, you are limited in the what your ISP does, or if not your ISP then their access to the internet trunk. Also make sure your network is secure and change default log in information.
If the issue is outside yours or your ISP control, a VPN could be a workaround, possibly bypassing the problematic node system, which may be throttling or having actual equipment issues that is restricting bandwidth. And yes, it can take the management time to order and replace said equipment.
- Doing speed tests are only valid for the route taken.
- Wired or Wireless from computer to router to modem(gateway) to ISP? If wireless attempt to go wired and check.
- Do you have wireless locked down? Reset-Change wireless log in info. Change default log in info to prevent someone accessing and changing access.
- Family network? Check router if able to set bandwidth limit.
- Blow out router/modem and rechecking cabling and tightness.
- There has been instances where the ISP is rerouting the pathing, causing it to hit Europe or Asia then back to the States. Below it the main thread PGI made, though there are some others made by players where the dev chimed in.
