Simple idea: why not remove the convergence from torso- and head-mounted weapons. The issue with the huge alpha-strikes is mostly that they can generally put most or all of that damage on a single component.

So here's an idea: remove weapon convergence from everything that isn't an arm mount. No cone of fire or anything like that; torso weapons literally just fire straight forward from the appropriate location on the mech.

Gives players the choice of:
a ) high pinpoint alpha damage, but have to risk putting heavy weapons in arms,
b ) high non-pinpoint alpha damage, with safer mounts,
c ) combination with safer mounts, but spreading the alpha out so the torso weapons are fired in sequence to all hit one component.

As opposed to the current:
d ) safety and other benefits of torso-mounts while still having high-damage pinpoint alphas, or
e ) that's actually it.

I expect that some people are going to be against this if only because the idea of not firing every weapon you have at once is unthinkable, and anything that spreads damage over a mech is bad because reasons. But I think it's at least worth a shot.

Been calling for this for 3 years. it would make arm mounts more valuable and solve a pile of problems with pinpoint damage. make mechs like Hunchbacks more valuable as their weapon spread will be smaller than something with points everywhere, but also balance the fact you can loose most of your fire power in 1 hit. also reduce the effectiveness of face tanking. Even if they still converged but only at the optimun range that would be ideal
