I hear mention that people want a surrender function in FP for stomps.

Well rather than surrender how about a "bug out" option. This is very broadbrush

So the players decide that they are not going to win and vote to retreat.

The other team automatically wins and the retreating team will get a CBill penalty. But rather than just ending the retreating team has to get to the drop zone to be picked up (no respawns for the retreating team but still respawns for the winning team) within a certain time.

If they get picked up they either don't get the cbill penalty or get some other reward.

Sometimes you get to club seals, sometimes you are the seal. When things go south try a new tactic. You are going to lose anyway so testing an idea can help with future matches. Beats hiding while waiting to die.

Paul's thread in the dev outreach for FW has several ideas flushed out on how to handle stomps and spawn camping. Check it out.

While I'd like the ability to surrender, even in exchange of a 100% penalty...

Unfortunately I can spot a stomp before the first shot is fired, and would abuse that surrender ability to the bone :P

What I WOULD like instead, is being better rewarded for wasting my time being stomped, such as a reward proportional to my ranking within my own team.

I mean in a stomp I can rank #1 within my team, and still score so little I'd be better off blowing my own mechs to go find a real match instead : If I was rewarded for how well I performed despite how poorly my team performed, I'd be more likely to welcome those totally one-sided then I am now.

To give an idea, I can earn as little as 25% of my average score when I drop on a stomp : I am totally better off blowing off my own mechs so I can score ~4 times more per minute on a proper drop... then wasting my time playing a full one-sided game earning 25% of my average score. The only reason I don't systematically do this is that I've been in up to 9 stomps in a row (and that was a week ago...).

Example of a participation reward that would make stomps worth playing : 1st place gets 12% bonus of what the whole enemy team scored (in credits, XP, loyalty)... down to 12th place gets 1% bonus of what the enemy team scored. This participation bonus would be available to both teams (winner and loser).
