So I recently installed discord for some group games but then I started getting issues. First I got the plain red screen of death then the game wouldn't start. After much head scratching and reinstalling the game would start but the resolution was all messed up. He's where the fun starts.

When I get the game to load in settings the screen resolution size is actually missing. Eventually I figured out I have to set the resolution in the attributes.xml file. And then hey presto game is playable.

BUT. Any change to the settings crashes the game and still no screen resolution option. So every time I need to change something I have to change it. Wait for the game to crash then reset the resolution in the attributes.xml file to get back in game.

Going back to discord it also messed up my Logitech mouse which kept switching modes and consequently my key bindings. Since not using it the game has been fine in that respect.

TL:DR games been (mostly) fine for six odd years, install discord and all hell breaks loose. I can get the game running but in settings the screen resolution option or size is literally not there meaning it had to be set manually in the attributes.XML file?

Try turning off the Discord overlay for MWO.

Missing some finer details. Full Screen or Full Windowed or Windowed Screen for game?

Though not noted, have you check with Discord? The overlay has had a variety of resolution issues with games but like my first question, some workarounds had dealt with switching from Full Screen to Windowed mode. Essentially, Discord overlay may be intercepting signal, preventing the game from receiving said information. And that you have had issues with your mouse AFTER installing and running Discord, the burden to resolve rests primarily on Discord.
