or you know, you could just stop playing, I'm not sure who benefits from the actual removal of your account, but probably not you, ever ...

There are many reasons one would want to delete their account, just because you can't perceive one ... doesn't mean there couldn't be one for somebody else.

I'm kinda with NARC Bait on this one, I see no reason to delete your account. Just... stop using it. It will be there if you want it later, and if you never want to use it again then oh well.
There is no harm in letting your account sit there unused.
Then again, if someone is adamant about deleting their account... It's their account...

most accounts with any real time on them, will have some actual $ put into them .... and thats valid, up until you delete your account .... I see it providing benefits, but ... not really towards the average end user .... cheaters could have their names removed, instead of cleared ....
invalidating digital content, just seems ... e-wasteful ?

But also keep in mind that there are those "watchful eye" groups (and I am one of them) who will take a break from the game and only come back unless PGI adds something new or interesting.

To remove the temptation to come back, same reason bear_cl4w got himself banned
Personally, if you have to remove the temptation to come back... then why leave? Apparently they are still interested if they are so tempted to come back.
Maybe I just don't get it. If I am unhappy enough with a game to leave, I just leave. I don't even delete my account. Sometimes I come back to see how things have changed, most times I just don't even bother with it.
Still see no reason to delete the account. Saying it's to remove temptation is kind of a far stretch of a reason to me. Then again, as I said, I wouldn't fault anyone who did want to delete their account. I just personally don't see the reason behind it.

Who exactly is asking to have their account deleted in the first place?
This seems like a discussion about a non-problem, really. If you gave your personal information to PGI in the first place then what's the problem of it sitting there?
If on the other hand somebody is getting all "legal" about data protection, including the new GDPR regulations, then in theory if they request PGI to remove all data about themselves then PGI might have to do it on a legal basis, and this of course would include totally dissolving that person's account.
I don't see why anyone would want to do this, but if they did that is probably the most sure-fire way to do it.
