I said I'd do some benchmarks a while ago after building my travel rig and with a couple of people recently asking about the Ryzen APUs I finally got around to it.

First off here's the rig. This is everything I take with me when travelling with the assumption that there will be a screen in the Hotel I'm staying in. I semi-regularly travel for work, sometimes for as long as month away from home in another country.

To begin with I've overclocked some of the components although honestly it was extremely easy to do so. The CPU clock speed I was able to bump up to 3.8 with zero adjustments to the voltage. The RAM I wasn't able to use the bios to set it to the 3200 profile but I was able to use Ryzenmaster to bump up the core clock to 1600 (meaning it's sitting at 3200 since it's dual channel)

Here is a screenshot fo the exact settings. The GPU I did not OC at all. https://puu.sh/BAdOc/34d8bf7285.png

I ran some test benchmarks. First one was on userbenchmark and the OC makes a huge difference in how high my components places amongst other identical components. The RAM OC plays a HUGE role in hwo well the GPU scores compared to other 2400Gs.

UserBenchmarks: Game 29%, Desk 77%, Work 55%
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G - 85.3%
GPU: AMD RX Vega 11 (Ryzen iGPU) - 21.8%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - 111.7%
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 3200 C16 2x8GB - 96.2%
MBD: Gigabyte GA-AB350N-Gaming WIFI-CF

I then ran a Heaven benchmark, first running the program on loop for 20min before running the actual benchmark, to get a more accurate reading on temperatures.

Here is the settings: https://puu.sh/BAdIV/f2276ba865.png

Here is the results: https://puu.sh/BAdKc/6af2eeb26a.png

Here is the max temperatures various components reached during the benchmark: https://puu.sh/BAdI5/a5dc822ddf.png

As you can see the Cryorig C7, despite being a bit noisy is very much up to the task even with some mild OCs applied.

I then ran two MWO matches at different video settings. I got lucky in that both times I got the same map.

Game 1, Grim Plexus (Conquest)

Game Settings: https://puu.sh/BAeRM/9b6701e6c4.png

Temps: https://puu.sh/BAeN2/b09cc32e1b.png

Benchmark:
  • Average framerate : 54.1 FPS
  • Minimum framerate : 37.2 FPS
  • Maximum framerate : 81.2 FPS
  • 1% low framerate : 34.2 FPS
  • 0.1% low framerate : 9.8 FPS

Game 2: Grim Plexus (Assault)

Game Settings: https://puu.sh/BAeUk/a10ecc39d9.png

Temps: https://puu.sh/BAfaR/2a79abacc9.png

Benchmark:
  • Average framerate : 56.3 FPS
  • Minimum framerate : 33.9 FPS
  • Maximum framerate : 77.8 FPS
  • 1% low framerate : 33.9 FPS
  • 0.1% low framerate : 10.1 FPS
If there is any specific request, let me know or if you want specific video settings. I've also been testing and played The Division, Eve, Battletech and World of Warships and all play very well depending on the video settings. Eve Online in particularly is more or less maxed out at 1080p and is running fine for small scale content (obviously, multiple Eve clients can bring a Threadripper with multiple 1080ti cards to it's knees in the big fights)

Nothing new. I was playing this game at my work on computer without video card and i7-4770 processor. 30FPS on minimum settings - enough for this game to be playable.

I've played MWO on my work laptop. Also i7 with integrated GPU. There's a pretty big difference between playing at 720p at max 30 fps with dips into the low 10s and running at 1080p with average fps of close to 60 with dips no lower than 30 fps.

Like unplayable vs playable difference.

Weighing in:

I run an AMD A10-7700k (APU) and get 30~40FPS,
Paired it with an R7 250 Graphics card (cost £15) and gained an extra 10FPS on mid settings at 720p

As a general rule:

If you're planning on using integrated graphics, AMD will give youbetter performance at a lower cost. Just don't forget to get the highest speed RAM you can as RAM speed is crucial to performance with integrated graphics (don't worry, even with the increased margin on RAM cost you'll still be making a saving vs. Intel builds).
If you're planning on using a graphics card, get an Intel processor.
If you're planning on using Integrated Intel graphics.... lol.
