In the Time thats we can firing in River City from on Drop to next Drop the Restictions in the Heat/Nightvision make sense ...now is more a Big Pain in many Maps with dynamic Lightsystem (what a fine feature)...Forrest or River City by Night for many Players like me a Pain whe she handycapped with her own Biological Sensors or not edit the user.cfg

I am struggling already with vision problems with the game. Nerfing heat and night vision is a good reason for me to cut the cord permanently.

Did the devs say they were going to do this? I don't recall seeing this news.

Curious what you're referring to. I didn't see anything about night vision being nerfed.

the once non-range restricted Night/Heatvision was nerfed with the Release of River City old .In this time the Droppoints so near thats they sniping from one Drop to other with the H/N Vision as perfect Sniping tool...so the Range restricted to 500m to seeing Enemy in this Visions

old treads from 2013/14

and was a problem for Mary Sues thats no use Movement/Cover or only Max Brawl Builds (Solution:use Mix Builds for all ranges)

old (to powerfull Predator) Heatsight

As much as I liked predator vision, to make a post years after the night vision range nerf "why its further restricted" seems a bit, ...., off.
Maybe you want to ask why it's still nerfed now that PGI just put more stuff in the way between drop zones.
Same reason there are so many leftovers in the MWO's UI, no one bothers to clean up?

Ehh, part of the complaints was that we all run predator vision exclusively, so we didnt even see the games graphics any more :D

I highly doubt we can get an un nerfed night vision back, but asking in general is not going to get any attention beyond a rant.

At least we all have the same problem to deal with, unless you just increase gamma a lot when you need it, shrugs.

I could also make a thread of why Atlas eyes are nerfed, there aren't enough atlai on the field for the growing eyes to make a tactical difference.
You were able to see those eyes from so far away.

Nightvision range needs to be extended.

Heatvision needs to show "hot" targets in a more distinct color, like red.. or back to purple..

We also need "enhanced imaging" mode..

Vision is a real problem on a lot of maps. Anything night-time (including HPG and Viridian) I usually end up playing in Thermal because otherwise it's difficult to spot enemy mechs quickly.

Topic is lost in translation. I guess the Old Ranger's question is why the sight range is still limited on the enhanced vision modes. I'm pretty sure no changes to these ranges are otherwise in discussion right now.

If HV/NV stop having range limitation they will basically replace regular vision as default preference, due to their superior ability to see through smoke, vegetation, and darkness. Just like the old predator vision.

I personally do not mind having no limitations on HV/NV though, as my eye sight sucks in regular vision. Making HV/NV limitless in range will only make me stronger.

They could make longer HV/NV vision ranges be a skill tree item.

Also, if they don't want these vision modes to dominate then maybe they should stop trying to make basic vision so terrible.

I would rather they did that than going into Settings and ramping up Gamma on night maps.

and why we have NV/HV when its useless over brawlrange ?

Quote

superior ability to see through smoke, vegetation, and darkness
yes its the sense from Sensors like this , like the Sense from seismic Modules to detect enemys (while we not have here the 360° Radar without LOS from the older MW Titles) and HV of some Maps useless like Terra and not can seeing trough Hot Smoke.

I get what PGI was going for but I do think that the "balances" on heat and night vision are unneeded.

its balanced ...both teams can its use and its not other as black mechs in a white Polar map ...only alternate Viewmodes with not more Restictions or OP as Normal View in Daylight ...movement its ever important.

or we bring Flares or electronic Countermeasures for it ?! like Fake Mech-heatsignatures

and in HV most and not seeing was Friend or Enemy

Using it all the time was harsh on the eyes, though. And not using it was a disadvantage, because it was so damn powerful.

Maybe it could be balanced by introducing a lot of environmental heat souces, so it becomes a liability in certain circumstances. But that's just wishlisting.

I wasn't around at the beginning.... PGI was intent on the de-evolution of the battle space and determined to shorten all distances to make the space a brawling friendly environment...

In a FTL high tech universe, night vision should;t even be a discussion...... It never made sense to me as I've played that both IR and Thermal were so ineffective? I wonder what the original BT specs were?
