I find them to be a serviceable Ballistic + Energy Heavy and they make OK mini-Warhawks (4 PPC or 4 LPL) but there are certainly better options.
Rifleman, Jagermech, Roughneck (Heroes), Warhammer, Marauder, Ebon Jaguar or Night Gyr may be better Ballistic + Energy choices, depending on what you want to do.

Probably some uacs and lasers.

Night Gyr was on my list but Im not sure about the limited slots and its size, seems pretty tall. And some people say its sluggish. Isnt it pretty similar to a Gargoyle with less mobility?

Pure energy or missile based it does better than the Night Gyr. Ballistics, even in combination, I'd put the Gyr ahead of it. What the NCT has over the Gyr is shear crit space, which is best utilized to stack DHS. But its missile hardpoints are rock solid with the out of the box B variant, and it can pack 2 LPLas and 5 MPlas and still use 26 DHS and a TC MK1. I can, have, and continue to, do some serious work with that mech.

However, be mindful that your arms are a smidgen low for comfort, and contain most of your guns. This makes armor rolling a little more ... problematic, since you can't fully shield for risk of being disarmed, and you can't go hull down particularly easily.

On my alt I like playing mine with two ER-PPC's in the shoulders and an LBX-20 in the arm. Decent poke early game with the PPC's and the LBX adds a good punch in the brawl when it's time to push.

No joke, it is quite a good clan LRM boat... the only one that can do LRM 90.

No, it's crap. with crap hitboxes and horrendous durability. To function as the two posts above requires reliance on team members to spot for you, as the moment you are within enemy fire you are dead. Great, it can carry a crap ton of garbage weapon.

Maybe in group play with people you can count on to help, but not so useful in yolo-solo.

Gargoyle is 5/8, same speed as something like a Timber Wolf or Hellbringer. Night Gyr is 4/6, same speed as a Warhawk or Executioner. So they're different 'mechs for different roles.

Night Gyr is very sluggish (has the agility of a 90 tonner) but it's height isn't really a problem. Being tall isn't nearly as bad as being wide, so it's got a better shape than the Nova Cat.

It's not great, the bulk of its weapons are in the low slung arms which doesn't help when the mech has a low speed and accel/decel, meaning it can't hill climb or even corner poke very well. If you're into missiles it can do a solid ATM36 (6x ATM6) or the stock LRM 90 isn't too shabby. If you're comfortable with slow mechs, then you can definitely make this one work for you, but it's not very beginner friendly.

Can really pack a punch for it's tonnage but it's a glass tiger as others have eluded to...

If you're good at spreading damage it's a fun mech that's a lot of "feast or famine" is you know what I mean. Posted Image

No. Arms have convergence issue if you use anything other than lasers, and the mech is slow for the tonnage.

If you wanna try your luck at lurms in SQ, be my guest. I prefer DF mechs in SQ.

I purchased one because I liked the way it looks. It was very hard to skill up because it is slow and a big target, however I put 3 LBX10's with a ERPPC on mine and I can blast the heck outta things with minimal heat. But as stated in other posts there are other mechs that are better at it. If you like the way it looks however, get it.

The sun spooder wastes too much tonnage on that engine... the nova cat has a smaller engine so you can fit more lrm ammo.

You can fit a serious amount of wubs on it. My 2 LPL 5 MPL build is pretty damn good. It is slow and wide though.

Mixed results on it, either being all energy, or ballistic/energy. Its an easy target, like a free kill to the enemy. Had a number of good games with them though but not encouraging enough to keep it, or stop me from going back to the Night Gyr. Weapon mounts are too low slung, Sun Spider is a better idea.

A wet bag of rubber ducks would be more effective.

I tried all three of them in testing grounds:

- Night Gyr's mobility and especially torso pitch angle is atrocious. I dont like it at all.

- The Sunspider has no lower arm actuators (which I was going for) and lacks a bit on the armor side.

- The Nova Cat is the best fit so far mobility and weapons wise but it's cockpit is crappy. The lower part of vision is obstructed by it, not a fan.

- Ill probably stick with my Gargoyle which is quite a good allrounder with 2HLL+4ERML. It's got a decent heat dissipation with 24 DHS and the mobility on it is superb for a mech of that weightclass.

But Im open for suggestions. Im still looking for a new fun mech to buy.

I've found great success in my Nova Cat B as a sustained damage support mech. 6 LRM5s in the arms give me a tonnage efficient means of poking either direct or indirect and 2 CLPLs on the high mounts which let me poke from cover.I originally opted for LRM10s instead, but I found stream firing the LRM5s spread damage a little better and induce LRM panic in most pilots. Against teems with lots of AMS I have a weapon group that fire 2 clusters of 3 but then I fall back on my CLPLs, which do a fine enough job.
