Very close match, we lost because we had an afk. Score in the last 2 minutes was 11-11. Afk was killed with about 8 seconds left. A disappointment; we should have won.
Here is the idea: why not making an afk available for any died teammate, say when the afk doesn' t come back within 2 minutes ?

Probably too hard for PGI to code that. ;o

Would be a really cool idea. Which means it probably won't happen.

I'd rather they do whats necessary so that disconnects are not a "normal" thing.

Started similar topic a while ago. I'm pretty sure many folks did before me. Idea is great, but nothing regarding implementation sadly...

I was in a match a little while ago where we had an AFK; it wasn't until the score was 11-10 that he was able to reconnect. Our other mech was killed while the now no longer AFK mech was walking from the spawn point, but with a fresh Rifleman he was able to kill a hurt Catapult and we won.

Granted that usually doesn't happen, but it can.

This idea should've been implemented years ago. I'm all for it, considering that RL takes precedence over the game and that going AFK is sometimes necessary.

all they need to do is make the penality for afk longer like 5 min 1st time, 10 min 2nd time, 20min 3rd time and so on resetting each day and if its happen multiple times a week a month long break would be acceptable.

Why not?
  • Which of the already dead players is getting that "second chance" based on what criteria? The first to die? The last to die? The one who dealt most damage so far? The one who has the largest number of kills? KMDDs? Highest PSR? Same weight class? Vote?
  • What if a disconnected player actually returns after your 2 minute timeout but prior to anyone else on the team having died? Do you still want to block the player from his mech - despite already being punished by not getting anything in this match - and give it later on to someone who died in his own?
  • What if a player is indeed (just) afk? Do you seriously want the server to strip a fully connected player of his mech and then hand it over to someone else?
  • How do you intend to determine a true afk situation server side with reasonable certainty?
  • Depending on the mechanism that decides which pilot gets the "second chance": How do you prevent people absuing the mechanism by let's say delibertely suiciding to die first and thus being "first in line"?
=> Nope ... definitely not a good idea.

Players are probably at least 13 earth years old. Mom should let them finish the game before bed.

if a player is afk then it should not take over them imo. what people need to do is report afk players and get them a nice week ban. AFKs has to be deliberatly taking a mech from match where as a dc cant control it
