I recently played assault. As an ECM light I flanked to the rear and waited for the battle to begin. Then I started base capture. This effectively divided their forces which helped give us a win. I was unable to complete the capture. But for my effort being the only capture mech my match score was only 86. I would have been better off not doing the objective and going to battle instead. Why would players sacrafice their payout and standing to do objectives with such poor results. Your Tier system is based heavily on team effort in getting the win but does not recognise an individuals contributions to that effort. At this point I will no longer waste my time doing base capture in assault. I will just consider it another skirimish match.

Pgi

But ya this has ALWAYS been an issue. Zero incentive to be a scout/spotter/ capper.
And why lights are balanced on their leg humping assault killing potential. (Rock paper scissors my rear CT)
A change that will doubtfully ever be addressed.

Good. Playing objective is almost always throwing the match away in quick play. The objectives are so slow to complete that in my experience it always boils down to the team with the most mechs trying to kill the enemy as fast as possible wins. If your team has 8 guys trying to kill the enemy and 4 guys focusing on objectives, and the other team has 12 guys trying to kill the enemy, it's 8v12, and the side with 12 will win the main battle, then split up to kill stragglers and the objective won't matter.

This happens in conquest, assault, and incursion.

Also the smaller the size of the map the less objectives matter, IMO
Small maps makes it easy to recap once the enemy team is dead.

I support you on this one, although I remember a match where I was just capping conquest points in my spider and only did ~20 damage but still got as much money as I would have gotten if I was on the front line.

I don't think they have stated it clearly, but the primary objective is always to fight other mechs because that's the most fun for a lot of players. The objectives are just there to change the pace of the battle and to force the enemy team into doing something like defend or cap.
