I've yet to play under the new system/rules.. Outside of just now dropping into 2 matches with a triple UAC2 Shadowhawk so kinda hard to know..

Operations used to be goto on almost every mech, heat nodes ect.. Are people dropping heat sinks? changing things? I know this is a very broad question but i kinda wonder if builds were turned upside down, or are there just tweaks?

I realize i just need to jump in and play more mechs, but kinda curious what to look out for.

From what I can tell, nothing has changed much, except people take a bit less hot weapons.

Not a whole lot changed. I was able to take all the heatsinks out of my 6x AC2 build; everything else I left pretty much as-is. Most builds got buffed with the changes rather than nerfed.

Personally, I haven't had to redo any builds. I pretty much always built my mechs for DPS. The difference is I'm having an easier time brawling while some of the more energy-intensive alpha strike builds are shutting down easier when the pilots panic after I get into brawling range. Not firing everything at once is hard if it is the only thing you ever did before, and when a DPS brawler pushes up on you, mechs not built around endurance....are like the hare in the story of the Tortoise and the Hare.

Except once the Hare stops, he's dead.

And the next hare, and the next and the next and the next...

Until you wind up like this.

So here's my experience with the fish over the past few hours.

Spoiler

To be honest I feel for Piranhas...

I mean really, what kind of view is this?

(While the quote's about fish, as in all but one a fish [Piranha] tried to get me from behind, fact is I am usually in someone's face going "RAWR" and saying stuff like "You're next" as I get up to the 113 meters I need to be for full effectiveness. And enemy after enemy after enemy has a really really bad day.)

Well, I do not have any real high heat alpha strike builds, but I have a number of pure laser builds. The alpha strikes spike a bit higher on the heat scale, but it does go down fairly quickly again. On everything I play, I would say my Mechs have more staying power now, being able to stay slugging longer. Which is why I did not change my builds, because I have even more sustain.

I am also currently playing a semi skilled Triple RAC2 Bushwacker and on heat neutral maps I can not get the mech to overheat so far. And I have 0 Operation skills right now and only half the heat reduction ones. Depending on your build, you might need less heat management. I am planning to get the heat reduction nodes, but chances are I will not need the Operations tree.

The more i play, the more my DPS builds are lots more fun... and the more i'm stripping a little Heat with sinks, or ST and adding more armor, or goodies! AMS for everyone!

I mostly have not reworked my builds because I have been out of town since patch. However, I noticed today that alpha striking in my 5ERLL Battlemaster is more effective than it used to be. The increased dissipation means it is ready to go by the time I have re-positioned.

Not much. Most of my builds lost one front loaded alpha but gained the ability to maintain continuous fire at weapons cooldown plus 3-5 seconds of cooling.

None so far but then my builds are more between DPS and High Heat Alpha strikes. I think I only have two mechs setup for Alpha Strikes, 2 of my Battlemasters. Even with the more DPS builds, if in a brawl I am using BACKSPACE/Chain fire to ensure I am not shutting down before extracting myself.

The other thing to consider is that PGI did say that the Cooling/Heat nodes were not adjusted with the new Heat Scale settings, and that they would be using Live data to determine their route on it for further adjustments.

I did not read that, but thanks for the info.. I have not really adjusted any Skill tree yet, though i am actually just leveling a bunch of mechs atm anyway.. I think a few will be skipping operations for now. I have a fwe ballistics mechs that i can just fire non-stop and never over heat.. even with some lasers mixed in. These mechs did get hot eventually before the patch, now they could never over heat even if i tried.. (or might take like 15+shot's though my UAC's jam before that happens anyway)

Dissipation rate is jacked way up, so if you liked your build before you can drop at least 1 heatsink for no real harm.
