Would it be possible to get a new variant of an existing mech? I know they plan mech releases well in advance but maybe something like when the Griffin 2N was released by itself would be cool.

Some options I'd like.
- Grasshopper 7K, ecm & JJ, energy boat variant. Would help make the GHopper more relavant.
- Phoenix Hawk 4L, Ecm, JJ, mg boat
- Firestarter S1, Ecm, JJ, laser boat.
- PGI created ballistic Stalker or torso ballistic Battlemaster.

Would you guys like a new variant of an existing chassis? Which chassis would you like to see get a new variant?

What I'd love to see is a bushwacker with ECM.

I'd start with the 'mechs with the least number of variants - all the following have less than 5 to choose from;
Commando
Spider
Jenner
Raven
Vindicator
Kintaro
Quickdraw
Jagermech
Archer
Marauder
King Crab

I'll pick out specific variants after I eat Posted Image

A couple Dark Age Variants of the Timberwolf and the Mad Cat MK II come to mind. All of which use tech currently in the game.

While new stuff is always nice, I for one would like my existing variants of an awful lot of chassis to be made more relevant be it with better quirks or whatever. I don’t see how introducing a new variant of any chassis helps the others be more relevant.

especially variants that bring old mechs up to the current level of power creep. 6 machine gun spider for example.

Well that is more for Chris to handle.

A new variant can simply bring extra flavor and renew interest in a chassis.

No need to create a whole new variant for those cases. Just increase the inflation on existing variants and call it a day. Laziest solution next to doing nothing. That's of course assuming PGI wants to do anything more than do nothing, which is unlikely.

well they could sell the new variants. kind of think they need more content in the < $10 range. they can come out for cbills in 4 months. some of my classic mechs i would pay money if i could make them viable again.

I would love to see the : -
HBK-5SG A Norse-Storm prototype that never saw full production, the -5SG was first spotted in 3068 and trades out the autocannon and small laser of the -5S for a Gauss Rifle and Guardian ECM Suite. The addition of Stealth Armor makes this Hunchback a long-range sniper that is difficult to hit. A Compact Gyro is used to make room for all of the equipment.[6] BV (2.0) = 1,577[14] http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hunchback

Well it would have to be a PGI created variant but I'd buy it.

No Compact Gyro in MWO though.

That said I love this whole concept and wonder why PGI don't add more variants more often. No need to do new models. Is it because they want to save them for what we are going to get next week - Customer Appreciation?

Sure its a misery with the ballistic slot on the other side.

but Blazer Marauder or Zeus would be nice too.
And new versions for the Phoenix (RAC Thunderbolt, Gauss BattleMaster) and Alpha Mechs (Speed Hammer) would be nice too

I'll admit a few of those aren't exactly great, but we're still missing a lot of tech and no crit-splitting also limits our choices.

Oh friend, wouldn't that be a new mech?

But I would not mind some new variants.. maybe a nice Blood Asp with 2 missile slots on each torso, or a single missile slot and some energy slots on the arms..

Or perhaps a Supernova with 4 missile slots and ballistic slots?

The Jenner and spider are do-able with current weapons. Nothing special about those and just becomes another meh mech in the hanger collecting dust. The spider is just a clone of the 5v. The worst of the worst light mechs in the game. the Jenner can be just done on the D or other variant. Still has all the problems of the Jenners. The raven is a huggin beaten with an ugly nerf stick. You can mock up a simular build on the 4x minus two mgs. At least the 4x has JJ option.

None of those variants adds anything the those mech chassis or light mech class. i'd rather see brand new light mechs that aren't clan copies 2cs or worse variants put in just because of someone going 'lights op!' wasting a light mech of very few we get a year if lucky. If people really wanted to play lights there are a ton of ways to make the current variants viable and you know pgi has no clue how when they give a mech an 80% quirk plus 10% skill tree quirk and that mech still is the worst mech in the game.
