Most of the best looking quads are late Jihad anyway, IE Thunder Fox (3077).

Nope. (I mean, not really nope, but that sort of art/animation/dev effort is much better served elsewhere in the game)

I still got a whole bunch of Thunder Fox figures from the Mechwarrior Dark Age sets. That time it was like spinning gachas and you get these frequently as commons.

That said, no.

You got no torso to spread the damage around.

From a vertical perspective, you got a large hit box. Those things are going to die a lot under LRM rain.

Spider bots will just piss people off, because they will like block both your advance and retreat. Imagine trying to back out from enemy fire only to be blocked from the back by a teammate's spider bot and you end up dying in the process.

Requires IK which the game seems to have deactivated deliberately. You use the same IK whether this is a knight's horse or a demon monster boss on a raid so they should be built in to any game engine.

The low height of these robots means they will get line of sight obstacles on uneven terrain, and would be better if there is a way to elevate the mechs to a more convenient firing height.

Quad mechs should generally be able to side strafe, and unlike bipedals where the feet point to the direction of travel, the quadmechs should be independent of that.

Spider bots needed to be given some kind of advantage, which namely being able to climb things. They could wreak havoc on maps where they can climb up to structures and rain death, like LRMs or long range direct fire weapons like ER Lasers or ER PPCs, keeping the Stalking Spider in mind. You can only counter with another spider bot or using LRMers to shoot over the hills and mountains, and require UAVs to spot these monsters.

The Nelly from Battle of Titans comes into mind.

The Tarantula would be another freak out thing, with its insane speed plus jump jets. This would be spiritually similar to the Mite from Battle of Titans, namely a spider-scout. These things often end up hunting down other spider missileers and snipers sneaking up at high places. Long range direct fire weapons doesn't really work that well against them, as spiders can quickly scamper back into any rock cover, requiring spiders to root out another spider under cover.

If you choose to remove the wall climbing ability from the battlefield, the quad mechs will be nothing more than dead weight to a team.

These are things that better be placed in the category "Be Careful What You Wish For."

Much as I would like a quad mech in game (Hasnt been one sense the Tarantula in MW2 I think), quads present a lot of problems pretty much every developer of mechwarrior games has avoided out right. For PGI the lords of minimalism - we can file this one under 'when pigs fly'.

Too much animation effort for PGI from what we can gather since the game released.

It as tripods as well if I am correct. Also mechs over 100 tons. Which we could get one of those superheavies as a VIP that also shoots back.

I would very much like to see Quads in MWO. Hell, we have enough at this point in time to implement at least one of each weight class for both Clan and IS tech. Yes, it would require PGI use resources to make quads, since they'd need different animations, and need to move differently in that they can side strafe (like a standard FPS style movement) and turn in place, as opposed to torso twist, in addition to modified legging mechanics, however I'd argue the game is stale in part to no real variety in gameplay.

All biped mechs move the same way. All of them. If we had an alternative movement profile, it would at least be a novelty, and thus interesting. It would be something legitimately new, instead of just another mechpack. Further, Quads should have high volume for their weight, meaning that due to volumetric scaling, PGI would be forced to make quads smaller than their tonnage would imply with bipeds.

I know PGI won't do it. They generally don't spend the resources for innovative or interesting things unless it involves specific game modes. It doesn't mean they shouldn't do it. Because, IMO, they should. Adding quads would be adding an actual feature to the game in the form of alternative gameplay and mobility options.

Edit:

An example of what Alex's take on a quad would be, from his DA:

Bolt-ons are cheap, minimal-work, low quality, wallet grabbers. Of course PGI implemented those. Pigs will fly when PGI actually does something that requires them to put an hour of work into the game.
