It has been a few months since I last updated the game on this PC, I know the patching was always a bit slow with MWO, but this time... It's been over 2 hours, and I'm still at patch 17 of 22, and my computer gets really unresponsive during the time (can't really play other games either).

In the meanwhile, Battle.net updater has updated Hearthstone, StarCraft2, HotS and Overwatch all in about 20 minutes done... Meanwhile MWO patcher still doing it's thing, slowing my computer down. It's not the download speed (I'm on 100 mbit connection), it's the actual patching process. It's gonna be 3 hours soon.

It's true I don't have MWO installed on SSD, it's just SSHD but come on, how can 4 other games be updated in 20 minutes - also on the same drive (just Overwatch was about 8 gigs of download, MWO was 1.5 gigs) but it takes 3 hours with huge impact on system performance to update MWO with 1.5 gigs of data. Like wtf?

Yeah yeah I know, can always just leave the computer do it while I'm afk or something but I'm really wondering why is MWO patcher so bad?

Make sure you harddrive isn't full. It doesn't give you a warning and just sits there.

If you run into issues with the patcher run the repair tool it will "update" too.

Check where the patcher working folder is
You may have to change it, click the cog

Make a temp folder on the root of your drive eg: C:\mwopatcher
Then use the cog to tell patcher to use this folder
Should fix your woes, unless your drive is full.

C:\Users\Bla sometimes has issues I find at times, so I use a folder I created instead.

End your troglodytic ways and install the game on Steam.

Don't have it on Steam, don't even have game written in registry (after recent format C and OS reinstall), game updates and runs like butter.

Your Downloadspeed is not affected by your harddisk. Its the Server that they provide you with. As mentioned above, Steam has good DL Servers, PGI always had abysmal DL rates. In 3 Hours you can download the complete game on steam i would assume.

You have a common bug.

I have that one too, and because of it, have stopped using the portal.

Use Steam or update manually. I suggest Steam.. it's fast on updates..

Oh, so it's a bug? Interesting.

How do I merge the game with Steam? Will it be permanently merged to steam (can I still play trough the portal?) Can I still buy mechs and other things from the website like before?

You can go to Steam, find MWO, and simply install..

You can still have the portal installed (and must have it if you want to participate in PTS sessions, since steam doesn't let you do that).

My Fiancee has all the variants - Launcher, Portal and Steam.. all must be updated separately.. You can't run two at the same time.. but they don't interfere with eachother..

Game plays identical from steam as from portal, as far as I can tell.. Only thing is steam will auto-update itself on windows startup..

NOTE:

After steam install, game settings, key bindings and mech portraits have to be re-set.

Why would you want to play through the portal?

When you buy things on mwomercs.com and redeem them for your account your account will get the items, no matter which option of launching the game you choose

I uninstalled MWO and its portal and just installed through steam, no need to run repair tool or anything, also seems to update the game better then PGI's own patcher.

Is there a way to move the folders?
Maybe, but why go through the hassle, unless you are restricted by a data cap for your internet connection.
