I wanted to buy a hero mech preferably HEAVY to ASSAULT range

UltraViolet if you don't have one, being able to mount 8 CUAC2/CAC2/LBX2 is fun. Sleipnir is probably the best Assault Hero that you don't have.

But yeah, Slipnir would be my top of the list for Assaults.

Yen Lo Wang, paint it in greens so they don't just hit your AC20 from across the map, mod it with a snub-nose PPC in the CT and a Light engine. Agile, gets some kills usually.

Fafnir is good, yes - grab the FNr-5 or FNR-5B if you want to try 2 HGauss, FNR 5E if you want dakka. Hero is good, but not much better than the C-Bill variants, if at all.

The Phaket is one of the strongest medium mechs for raw damage output because of the 4 missile hardpoints split between both STs. Combined with an additional 4 missile hardpoints in the arms from other omnipods, you can build an 8 SRM6 bomber that's fast, mobile(with JJs) and has enough ammo and heatsinks for moderately long engagements.

"Enough" ammo for about 4-5 kills if you play it right. After that though... (8srm6 build)

They are all fun but not top liner. The best is probably the jester (mobility and laser spam)
My Firebrandt is a mock up Deathstrike with 2 UAC10 and 6 medium lasers (although, total glass cannon)
Top Dog isn't anything special anymore.
Ilya is a fun dakka mech.

I don’t think that’s the fafnir variant you want. I picked up the QuickDraw and it has been quite fun. MRM80, couple ermls and a jump jet to be crafty. You can cause a lot of problems and bug out in a relative hurry for a heavy.

Pick K9 or Street Cleaner.

If you ain't going all 5-energy for the K9, or max-engine for the SC, you're probably better off other Urbies if collecting ain't your thing.
