Vapor Eagle pilots, how do you like this mech? And if you do, which one works the best for you? For me, it has been the the VGL-2, with a CAC-20 as the primary weapon.

How about you... did you buy in early, or, why did you not?

I don't have much to say other than It's good. All the variants can fit a variety of loadouts to fulfill a variety of roles.

Strongest 55tonners clanners got, just able to do everything with a tonnage and speed of a Timberwolf.

I like to run the VGL-1 with 3xHML and 4xLMG. It’s light on firepower but it makes me think about my positioning.

Good hunting,

I don’t own it, but from shooting at it the damn thing wouldn’t die.
Seems like it has good geometry/hit boxes.

I had some good matches in the VGL-3 with ATMs yesterday. Felt like a significant improvement to the HBK IIC-B for this role because of more effective tonnage to work with as well as better hitboxes, more armor and more JJ.

My best successes with the mech were in the -4 and the -A. The -4 being run with Lazvom, one LPLas and 6 ERMLas, and a very large engine. Basically acts like an uptonned Phoenix Hawk, without jump jets. The -A being run like an Orion-IIC, with quad SRM6 and an LBX20, plus jump jets. I'm not sure what I like the feel of more, though: larger engine but standard SRM6, or a smaller engine but with the tighter clustering ASRM6.

The -1 is OK with a Gauss, LPLas, and 2 HML, too.

Beyond those two, I've honestly not been clicking with the mech very much. Just can't seem to get it to perform especially well on other variants.

It's too tall; waaay too tall. You would think height wouldn't be an issue, but the asymmetric hardpoint layout makes it one, as it forces you to never have two energy or two ballistics mounted high. Ergo, to play the snipe war you must expose yourself, or alternatively go brawl. It's hit boxes are stupid easy to isolate. It has the advantage of unlocked internals compared to the Huntsman but honestly I feel that the Huntsman is better purely by virtue of not having idiotic hardpoint placement. Overall it's a bit of a shame, had I the chance to have never bought the 'Mech, I wouldn't have.

If it had MASC and ECM it'd be perfect ;)

Certainly better than any IS mechs they've released as of late. I don't think they've released any good ones since the Anni.

I agree that it's tall, but at least hardpoint layout is not that relevant for -dum dum dum- guided missiles. Posted Image

The dual gauss + 4HML laser build on the VGL-2 is awesome (light on ammo so it doesn't sustain its output but still oh so sweet) and the mini Orion on the VGL-A is also a lot of fun.

Those are the ones that I've played and enjoyed a lot. For some reason the ATM builds don't click for me that well on this mech, though I love them on my Huntsman.

It's a solid mech. I run 2 atm9's and 3 erml's on the VGL-1. With the high missile mounts and jump you can be effective with the atm's in most situations.

I don't have it fully skilled yet, but with some investment in the survival tree it should be pretty tanky.

2 UAC10s+ERPPC on the 2 variant is great. I avoid arm mounts mostly because they're great shields. Overall great agility and mobility, can pack a punch with big ballistics. Good for hit and run not a great brawler. Slightly too big but good weapon mounts makes up for it. Excellent fire support as mediums are not priority targets.

I don't own it, but I've fought a large number of them. On the ground they are simple to target with their broad profile and only moderately durable to pinpoint alphas. They go down much faster than a bushwacker or shadow hawk. If the player is tapping their jump jets or doing ATM or PPC pop tarting, the above perspective goes out the window. They become much, much more durable and a pain in the rear to take out. In the air, they are Assassin grade tough.

It's a really good mech it seems.

My standard of comparison is the non hero Quickdraws. At 5 tons more than the Vapor Eagle the Quickdraw 4G, 4H, and 5K still lose in every category I care about. I haven’t made a variant to variant comparison of agility stats but the VE seems just as agile, maybe more so. Based on in game performance that I have seen, it’s certainly faster, can carry vastly more firepower, and the things seem inordinantly tougher than the Quickes (again not counting the IV-4). I won’t buy a mech pack, but if the game is still around when these things are out for C-bills, I will certainly pick one up. They look like a blast to play.
