So lets rework the routes on maps that are not so hot..
At the start of the match, lets show all the routes it can take. Is the mech going right, or left at the first thing is a big deal. Let us know!
after the first turn, why not let the team vote on the next turn.. In other words if we see all the other team at X point, we can vote and make it turn right.. If we have a great firing line, then make it turn left into us.
I think these changes could really work and make it more fun. Perhaps we use lights to cap turns *( that the other team doesn't see could be another way)
Just showing the route would be great, but letting the team escorting have a little input would be huge.. Unlike now when we play on grim and got a perfect light of fire on the right side,, and suddenly VIP decided walk right into their line of fire.
Thoughts? (other than dump escort How can it be better?)

2. Get rid of the stupid turrets. They are brutal versus lights.
3. Make the beacons neutral at the start.
4. Make the VIP react more to taking damage. Torso twisting for one.

Some of the stupid beacon placement on certain maps and the fact getting shot interrupts capping it annoys the crap out of me.

To offset, making the turrets weaker or increase the time between turret shots can help the other time get the points.
Right now all you need is to have 1 mech rush to find the VIP and tell the team before the defending team can distract with a firing line 10,000 miles away from the objective they are supposed to protect.

I would get rid of the turrets but the VIP itself should be armed. It should have at least 2 large lasers, an LRM20, and an AMS.

1. Make Escort a mode for Faction Play only.
2. Get rid of that hopeless AI. Allow the defending team to select a player to be the VIP.
3. Allow the defending team to select a landing zone for the dropship.
3a. The further the LZ from spawn, the sooner the dropship arrives.
3b. Thus, the closer the LZ to spawn, the longer the defending team has to wait.
4. Remove beacons and turrets.
4a. The defending team has more freedom to deploy.
4b. The pursuing team has more freedom to scout, seek and destroy.
5. Give the VIP ECM if the 'Mech lacks, and one-use consumable EMP to jam enemy tracking over a wide area for a short time.
6. Give the pursuing team free, extended range UAVs to a several of the lightest 'Mechs.
I mean, why not try?

2. Have it have multiple routes that can be selected by the company commander,you know the gold star all the special eds fight over on loading into match.
3. give it a simple stop/go command the defenders can use. You ever just follow the vip? It goes full on leeroy into the enemy.
4. Nuke it from orbit just to be sure. Pgi gave up on the game mode the moment they added it to the game as they usually do with any new game mode.

I suggest get rid of the VIP mech and have a randomly chosen player become the VIP . Other games have done this and it works fine .
Now you have a "VIP" with more brain cells and can cooperate with the rest of his team of protectors and defend himself in hopefully a faster quality mech . It will also never be the same kind of escort game twice because of different players and mechs .

Increase the path length then put the vip in a boars head with a max400+ speed tweak. This will make the protecting team have to watch and support the vip.
The vip needs to fight back to help balance.
