I am trying to determine the best configuration for MRMs to achieve a 60 pack.
The choices are two MRM30s or a MRM40 and a MRM20 or three MRM20s.

(edit because pasted table did not make it to post)

If weight is not an issue which factor will have the greatest impact on total damage: the higher heat, the lower spread?
Or am i missing information in my decision formula? (i have read that tube # can have affect damage with staggered launch).

I just go with 30x2 because they're unghosted.

For 60? twin MRM 30. no ghost heat, only a couple tons more than 20+40.

If you're really looking for 80? try an XL plus twin 40. more often than not, i've found that the extra 25% damage outweighs the fragility of isXL.

Interesting! Thank you for the suggestion.

Lower spread IMO, so go with 3xMRM20s.

MRM20s really lack a place in the game right now. They are the too inefficient launcher and tonnage wise they lose out versus every other combination.

If you really need to save a slot or two they might make sense.

I just spent nearly 9mil C-bills outfitting my Kraken with 2 MRM30s and an AC20. I was just about to spend another 5mil on the 74k-odd GXP to convert to Skill points but I lost the interest to play and switched off the game Posted Image

But yes, I prefer MRM 30s as well. The spread and damage are nicely balanced and heat management with AC20 and with Cool Run nodes is perfect. Talking about the testing grounds btw, if that holds any weight.

Does firing 20+40 generates 17.5 heat like on the image, or does ghostheat kicks in and it generates 24.6 ?

It generates ghost heat, but not 24.6. IIRC, ghost heat on a 40+20 is an additional ~1 point of heat. So 40+20 is lighter and cooler than two 30s, but at the cost of extra cooldown on the 40. That cooldown matters in some situations, but I generally feel it's smarter to go with the 40+20 as the extra ton can make a build work.

Went to testing grounds. No practical heat difference, both combos heat up ivy to 31%.

"Which looks best on this mech?" Am I the only one who builds their mech like this. Since when did the rule of cool lose meaning in the Battletech universe...

It depends on the build.
I just switched my Treb from 30+30 to 40+20 and I am happy with it. I needed that 1 ton for other things - these can be lasers or 1 additional DHS if you are hot, so 40+20+DHS is much cooler than 30+30. Also, sometimes you dont have to alpha and can save even that 1 extra heat (never needed in my build though). The longer cooldown of the 40 is not a real issue on the Treb7M - it is quirked to high haven and I am going for max alpha, not max DPS. For assults, the DPS (given the same alpha) matters more because they do not peak/poptart as much.

What always get me if I have the hard points do I take the one MRM 30 for less heat or three MRM 10 for one ton less.

30+30. The 20s are just generally inefficient and boating them really only works on things like the Zeus, where the crit space works out. 40+20 is technically sound, but dear God, the cooldown discrepancy feels so bad.

The MRM20 kinda works in cases where you've only got one missile hardpoint and not enough tonnage for the MRM30, such as on my 4 ERML + MRM20 Raven. I guess you can also use them with an MRM30 to get 50 unghosted damage (MRM40 + 10 has the same heat as MRM80).

That's really about it though. I really wish that PGI didn't normalize the spread and cooldown of MRMs (and ATMs) so much. The smaller launchers in the SRM family have shorter cooldowns and lower spread for damn good reason.

Also have there place on some builds all MRM under 40 have same cool down time. MRM Treb 7M is MRM 50
TBT-7M 40 can't sync with MRMs 30 20 10.
